[SOLVED]Optical drive problem
August 6th, 2016
recently i experience random hang ups on my rig
maybe it will last 10mins or more then returns back to normal state
but leaving my hdd led on still red.. like it’s light is on still..
then tried searching for the culprit, and found out that after the hang up
my optical drive was not detected anymore, but still the power is there
i can still open the optical drive.. but no where to be found on computer devices
i also tried updating it’s firmware but only gives me hangups.. that to the extent my rig won’t go back to normal and needs to be restarted..
does my optical drive dead already? or what?
this is my rig specs
Athlon II x2 240
ASRock N68C-GS FX motherboard
2GB ram
FSP HEXA 500W PSU
my optical drive is a Samsung DVD Writer SH-S223
seems like one of those possibilities :
somewhere you have a short in the SATA connection either on the DVD or the Board, try connecting the DVDRom to a different port on the Mainboard
DVD Rom is buggered
If the PC does no longer recognize it, it is faulty , you can try to check the Event log, maybe something has been logged there, but most likely it has developed a fault …
First thing to do is boot to your bios to see if it sees it.
If it does then it’s a windows issue – try looking on google for “reset upper filter”
If not, move the cable to a different MB port – if it fixes it then the MB is faulty, if not then either the v=cable of the drive is FUBAR.
Drives are cheap now, so it’s not a huge problem.
ok guys, i’ll try this tomorrow
as i observe my sata cable has a strange dent mark on it
like it was bend too much.. i hope it would be a sata cable problem..
I had a problem like that on one computer, after replacing the drive, it happened again. it turned out to be a bad power supply(caps went bad) replacing that fixed the problem.

oh dear don’t say that
if the culprit is on the power supply then after the hang up is gone
why does my optical drive can open/close but it can’t be detected anymore
as of now i replace the sata cable.. somehow my rig is running fine
what I mentioned is one possible cause. if replacing the SATA cable works, fine, you solved the problem.I had a problem like that on one computer, after replacing the drive, it happened again. it turned out to be a bad power supply(caps went bad) replacing that fixed the problem.

just an update..
did a fresh reformat on my OS
now everything works fine
the random hangups was due to my new motherboard
and i just load the old files around.. that’s why registry mess up.. XD
thank you guys.. more power !
