Mousepad for optical mouse

August 23rd, 2013

Right now i am in the process of buying a new mouse.
It is of course going to be optical.
I wondered if i should get a new mousepad in the same package but i’m not sure if the “optimized for optical mouse, mousepad” thing is just an invented thing so the companies can make more money.
Is it?

It depends.
Some the the really expensive Razor mPads are ‘supposed’ to be better than any ole’ pad, but they are $70.. for a pad!!
Generally, no, any mouse pad will do, comfort is more important than the actual pad, BUT…
Optical meece work better where the sensor can detect variations – pure colour is not as good as textured or mottled, crosshatched, etc.
Just get a comfy pad with a picture or pattern and you’ll be fine.
