720p rips with 700MB
February 8th, 2020
I am a bit confused. Thanks
Just cuz it is 720p don’t mean the quality is any good, lol. That is just the resolution of the video =/
nope
you get the whole movie
a 720p is normally x264 video codec which is better quality than xvid so you can encode in a larger frame size and keep better than xvid quality of the same file size
BOB use to do good 720p TV shows that were the same size (350mb) as xvid encodes but twice the quality
Just cuz it is 720p don't mean the quality is any good
but don’t get me wrong, it’s not as good as a 2, 3 or 4 gb encode
They keep the resolution size the same, but hack away lots of bitrate. (details/quality)
Alright, thanks for replying. I am changing all my movies to 720p so just wanted to ask.
Just a note, increasing the resolution does not increase the video (bitrate) quality. The quality also does not increase when you increase the bitrate in a video converter.
increasing the resolution does not increase the video quality.
not true IMO
a 720 frame (1280×720) does not need to expand to cover a 1280×720 TV screen so it carries more image info than a 640×360 or 720×404 frame that needs to expand it’s self and interpolate the missing info
a 40 minute 350mb file that’s 720p looks better to me than a 640×360 (360p?) or 720×400 (400p?) one, if it’s done right using extra passes during encoding (like BOB did when they were around)
(BOB = BEST of BOTH – good quality, small size, is/was a release group)
and .MrPhill, some uploaders are labeling 720x*** files as 720p, and they are not
a 720p encode will be 1280 wide by whatever 1280x***
the height of the file is determined by the movie’s aspect ratio
Yes you need to be very careful with these as like said above some are labeling them by the horizontal ratio and not the vertical one lol. I was looking for 1080’s and nfo says x 800 lol. Also some are just using the source as reference, regardless of what it’s converted to.

It’s still 1080 but it’s ultra widescreen.
OT: Filesize is reduced by lowering the bitrate of the video and audio. For a 700mb 720p rip I’d expect the Video bitrate to be around 2500 and the audio to be 160 KBps. A high quality rip will probably have 10,000 video bitrate and 5.1 lossless audio.

If you’re playing the 720p rips on a TV they’ll look very good, but if you watch 720p rips on a laptop/computer it wont look that good.
I dont know why, but thats just the way it is. Most of my movies are now 720p rip’s, but in great quality (2-3gb) and I have 1 or 2 1080p rips (6-8gb)
Visit this if you haven’t done yet. You definitely wont regret.
