Router

Have just plugged Ethernet cable into back of router getting 4.85 to 4.91mb speed when downloading when downloading wireless speed is 4.35 to 4.38mb question is this much difference as I would have to get someone to drill a hole in my wall to wire via Ethernet, is it worth it.
Thanks
Solved can now be locked ,thanks to all

Got the same thing myself… But had much more of a speed loss at the time.. Up to you… To fill the hole you need a small amount of puddy, and paint.. I do have a wire stretching over a common walking area, but worth it due to the speed increase… But at the same time, I get like a max dl of 900kb’s ethernet, with wireless 400… (Lack of wireless speed is apparently every one in my area using it, and therefore slow, may be different for you…)

Thanks just want to know if there is much difference between the two speeds.
Answer #3
You’re getting 90% (do the maths) of the speed with wireless, so it is not a great deal of difference..
If you were networking your PCs and want to send data between them
then an Ethernet cable would be more important as a wireless setup could bottleneck those high speeds between PCs.
But as said, for your internet it matters little, at least when you measured it..
Although, as mentioned by Gangdog, under adverse conditions it might slow down.

You would be better off with a powerline than drilling.
Answer #5
Whats a powerline? not technically minded.

Whats a powerline? not technically minded.
A device that will use the electrical line to send lan traffic. In this way you can have nearly the same speed of being connected directly to the router over ethernet by only connecting your pc to a device plugged in the power socket.
