Downloading Linux

February 10th, 2020

I know this doesn’t have to do a thing with programming, but I’m sure now one will answer this unless it’s here. People at the Other OS’s forum seem to be more interested in Mac.
When I try to download some Linux distros, I find many CDs. For example when I visit the following link: http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/5.0.3/i386/iso-cd/
I find around 30 CDs for the i386 platform. I’ve always wanted to know what’s the difference between them all, and which one should I grab.
Please remember that ALL links must be coded, including, but not limited to, e-mail addresses, passwords, and internal links. Coded for you this time.

Answer #1
http://www.debian.org/CD/faq/index.en.html#which-cd
Answer #2
Grab the entire distro DVD, if there’s one available.
Answer #3
The best choice would be the latest stable version
http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/

V
Answer #4
ubuntu is still the best intro to linux os.
debian is similar but it’s a bit more complicated. The debian stable release is very safe, it uses releases that are tried and tested but as a consequence getting edge updates for pretty much anything is impossible unless you compile the code yourself. Debian stable is a good choice for a live server. You’ll probably want to go with unstable for a desktop environment. I’d much rather use ubuntu though because it’s much easier to set up and it’s created for a desktop environment.
But i have a mac so i don’t really care about desktop linux anymore.
Answer #5
Slackware is pretty bomb too IMO. Only problem is, you gotta know what you’re doing lol.
Answer #6
Depends what you are looking to use it for. I hate all linux desktops as I only use it for command line work, so which distro doesn’t make any different to me. When I have used an X windows system I always chose Fedora.
Answer #7
Thank you guys, yet I wasn’t asking about the best distro to use! I’ve been using Linux for a long time; however, I only wanted to know what’s the difference between all those 30 CDs available for download at debian.org
Answer #8
go back up one directory, then, go into the list-cd folder and you will find a list file for each CD..which will tell you what is on each of the CDs.
normally, CD1 will give you a base install and possibly desktop environment..any other apps that you may want can be found somewhere on one of the other CDs.
Answer #9
The first CD/DVD disk contains all the files necessary to install a standard Debian system.
To avoid needless downloads, please do not download other CD or DVD image files unless you know that you need packages on them.

Answer #10
This topic has been posted in the wrong section.
Moving.

Answer #11
Just download the first cd (there’s a gnome_cd1, kde_cd1 and xfce-lxde_cd1, choole the desktop environment you want, the default by debian is gnome).
The stuff contained on the other cds are available through the package manager (apt).

(Solved) copy .img file

February 10th, 2020

I downloaded a movie but it has an (.img) extention at the end.. how do I covert it to an AVI file..
Answer #1
Delete that, report… and download another one… from trusted uploader…
Answer #2
It’s a disc image file, You downloaded a DVDR I assume?
Anyways, Either mount it to a virtual drive using magicdisc/virtual clonedrive or
burn it to a disc using imgburn (go with the write image file to disc option)
Answer #3
thanks guys I’ll try them both and see which one is easier..
Answer #4
Re-downloading would be a waste of time. There’s nothing wrong with it!
It’s a DVD-Video image file, Once you mount (or burn it) you’ll be able to play it just fine.
Answer #5
Imgburn worked fine..thanks guys,

How can I split a “.bin” file in single wav files?

February 10th, 2020

How can I split a “.bin” file about 600 MB big in single “.wav” files (should be the original format)? There is a cue file available.
I cannot get it working with “Virtual CD” and “Medieval CUE Splitter” shows not to support this format / extension.
Best wishes, Biff

Answer #1
i assume u got the cue+bin of an audio cd no? in that case mount the image and rip it using any app like winamp/WMP/iTunes etc
Answer #2
Thank you, tubago.
i assume u got the cue+bin of an audio cd no?
Yes.
in that case mount the image
But I cannot get it running with Virtual CD though this extension should run with it. “Mount” means to run the bin-file with a program like Virtual CD, to use it like a normal, real CD? Thanks again, best wishes, Biff
Answer #3
Mount means that the cue+bin will be used as a normal CD on the virtual drive. What software are you using to try to mount it? I’d suggest Alcohol/Daemon tools or power ISO. Never had problems with it. if none of those work the only way around that i can remember is burning the CD and then ripping it
Answer #4
Thanks tubago.

What software are you using to try to mount it?

Virtual CD I use, bin-files are supported with it, but I cannot get it work.
Best wishes, Biff
Answer #5
then bin (no pun intended) and download Deamon Tools – Far superior
Answer #6
Thank you very much , ,
Okay, I will do and try.
Best wishes, Biff
Answer #7
Usually an audio cd will not be in bin/cue format, what I have seen though is a huge wav file (600mb.wav) that has a cue sheet with it to show an audio extractor where to cut the files. I use Easy Cd-Da Extractor to do that. EAC or Exact Audio Copy might work with your bin file, try mounting the cue file into daemon tools and then point eac to it and see if it can read the individual wavs.
Remember, and you can look at any store bought cd to see this, a music cd does not list the tracks on it when you load it onto a PC like you might expect, they will be listed as track01.cda track02.cda etc. but embedded in the cda data can be the name of the song and author, album and stuff for the cd players display. So its possible that you loaded the bin file but your system did not recognize the disk. As a matter of fact as I was writting this I put a disk in the drive and one of my PC’s said there was nothing in the drive (on both optical disks) then I put it in another PC and it saw the cda files. So there could be something with your system that refuses to recognize the cda files like mine did. And since I have not played an audio cd on this machine for ages I never noticed although I will look into it now. It might have something to do with autorun.
As a test, if you can put a store audio cd in your drive and look at it in windows explorer and if you see the track0X.cda files then you can eliminate that as the cause.
Answer #8
Many thanks, .

Yes, more common are ape or flac with a cue file, I assume. I was wondering why the copy of the CD has this bin-format, it is not burned on a disc, but on my hard disk, I didn’t convert it. I have tried EAC without success. And I do not understand why Virtual CD doesn’t read it, but I will try Daemon Tools.
Yes, all CDs are recognized, working in my drives.
Many thanks again, best wishes, Biff
Answer #9
I have an older version of Easy CD-DA Extractor that I got for free off a PC Magazine disk I recieved. Its not actually free but back then all they did to get you to buy it was make you wait 8 seconds for it to load, it also put three separate Icons on your destop but you can delete them. Of course its not the newest, but you don’t have to fix it and its only about 6mb. I used to have a copy on my RS collectors page but they keep deleting stuff that hasn’t been accessed for a while so I have to put it back. There is a fix for it out there if the 8 seconds really bugs you, I’ll PM you the link and serial as well.

Answer #10
get Isobuster and load the bin file into it to see what the contents of the BIN actually is, then, you can also, use isobuster to extract the contents of the BIN file.
Answer #11
Install Medieval CUE Splitter, load the cue sheet and split into single tracks!
Answer #12
Thank you for your answers,
Okay, I will have a look at Isobuster.
Best wishes, Biff
Answer #13
If it won’t work, burn it to a CDRW and rip from that.

For Movie DVDs that have some kind of protection, you’ll need something like:

hdd cloning pros & cons

February 10th, 2020

good day mates.. i am looking for a best software to clone a hard drive
my hard drive is really dying fast.. don’t know why.. 3years in service
at 88% health with 11 badsectors T_T
this hard drive is a Seagate Barracuda 250GB
partitioned it into 2.. 205GB and 27.8GB
if i clone the hard drive itself will the partition be cloned also?
or do i have to join them together and clone them as 1 partition?
and is there no data loss in hdd cloning? and one more thing.. how reliable are these “Certified Repaired” hard drives?
they sell cheap here in our country, still a Seagate hard drive XD
or should i opt to another brand.. hmmm Hitatchi has less RMA..
i got also another option.. a WD Green drive those new ones.. EZRX versions..
so any opinions/suggestions out there?
thanks wbb

Answer #1
don't know why.. 3years in service
That’s certainly long enough. You should never expect an HDD to last longer
than 3 yrs! i am looking for a best software to clone a hard drive
I recommend you use Acronis True Image for this task. The disk cloning wizard is what
you’d wanna use, It should be on the menus somewhere if I recall correctly. Also, It has an option of ignoring bad sectors, Make sure you enable it! And properly adjust the boot order from BIOS once it’s all done.
if i clone the hard drive itself will the partition be cloned also?
It depends on the particular app. Acronis lets you customize if if you want (but you should only do that if the new HDD is of bigger capacity) 28 gigs may be alright for XP, But for Win7/8 I wouldn’t settle for any less than 60.
and is there no data loss in hdd cloning?
No, Why would there be? Your just gonna be copying one HDD to another.
how reliable are these "Certified Repaired" hard drives?
Not any less reliable than new ones. However, No HDD is bulletproof and you can’t always
predict failures! If you value your data, Then I strongly recommend you maintain regular backup to another HDD (preferably an external) and maybe use some online backup service too.
or should i opt to another brand..
Don’t see a reason to.
WD Green drive those new ones.. EZRX versions..
FYI, Green drives are made for pure storage. They aren’t built for best performance, Therefore shouldn’t be used as Primary (The OS will suffer)
Answer #2
so is it okay to clone right away?
hmmm here is the situation again..
i got a 40GB IDE running my OS and some apps
then my 250GB as my storage..[mentioned above with 2 partitions]
i want to change and use a 1TB drive for both of them..
is this possible to clone? which is first? thanks you really explain everything well great credits to you
so the green drive is not really good even the new version for OS and other XD
it was really catchy because of the price here.. hahaha (limited budget)

You cannot clone 2 drives into 1!!
Disk cloning can only be done on a one to one basis (all existing partitions on the destination drive will be automatically deleted when you clone to it!) which is why you should clone ONLY the OS HDD (40GB) and use copy & paste to transfer the data from your other one (250GB)
thanks
You welcome so the green drive is not really good even the new version for OS and other XD it was really catchy because of the price here.. hahaha (limited budget)
Green drives are fine for storage, Just not for anything I/O intensive like operating systems and games.
Answer #4
i see, you can’t clone 2 drives into 1 drive XD
another learning experience from you mr !
thank you!
i’ll be cloning my drive and making back-up soon

a Western Digital Black drive, with the 64MB cache is a much better drive than any Seagate drive!. especially regarding reliability!. don’t get the “white box” versions though, they are repacked by a third party from a large box, and sometimes are mishandled by them!.
Answer #6
thanks for the info
uhmm how can we recognize that WD black drive is the “white box” version?
as of now, i’ll be cutting cost here.. so sad.. T_T
i think i’m going to risk at a “Certified Repaired” Seagate drive 1TB
just to save my files and keep this old rig running..
Answer #7
]Western Digital Black drive, with the 64MB cache is a much better drive than any Seagate drive!.
The black series is overpriced, And as far the bigger cache goes, That’s complete nonsense! It has previously been proven that the size of the cache have no impact on performance (as long as it’s at least 8MB) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk%3ADisk_buffer
So it’s overall just a gimmick.
especially regarding reliability!
I couldn’t disagree more. I had several WDs that went bad after a short period of time.
don't get the "white box" versions though, they are repacked by a third party from a large box, and sometimes are mishandled by them!.
FYI the vast majority of HDDs come as OEM. Retail ones aren’t easy to find.

Open Itunes Drag the mp3 file from its Location on your computer into Itunes. The connect your iphone through the USB to the computer, once its recognized it. Click sync.
Alternataveily you don’t need to drag it but set up Itunes so it automatically finds of music files on your computer. Then it’ll already show up in itunes and then you just have to sync it.
You should google. “How to sync music through itunes.”

BS Player PRO

February 10th, 2020

hello, now BS Player launched Free version and PRO directly to buy from site so still anybody can cracked PRO 2.66 ?
Thanks

Answer #1
dido
Answer #2
I’d imagine somebody will eventually crack the Pro version as there are still benefits, but when was version 2.66 released? Chances are someone is working on a crack as we speak, so hang in there.
Although, sometimes people don’t bother cracking minor releases of programs, so there is no way to know for definite. Maybe you could try making a post in the app requests forum

its a latest version you can check on the website i have an doubt about crack the new version of BS Player PRO because its not possible to download now without purchase.

its a latest version you can check on the website i have an doubt about crack the new version of BS Player PRO because its not possible to download now without purchase. There’s a lot of software out there that you can’t download until you purchase. That’s just a deterrent… The only real way to stop piracy is to require that the software is always connected to the Internet, so unless BS Player 2.66 as that requirement someone out there will try to crack it, in my opinion anyway. The only possible exception to that is if what you download isn’t your standard installer, but I think it would be.

I don’t think you got my original message. You are thinking about repaints, not Paintkits. Paint kits are basically PSD files in which you can edit to make your own repaints. Repaints are the real liveries for the aircraft which you install.
