[Solved] Need help overclocking Intel Pentium D 820
December 20th, 2023
Intel Pentium D 820 @ 2.8 Ghz
2 GB DDR2 RAM
1.4 TB SATA HDD
Air cooling
I would like to overclock my processor without any hardware changes. My main concern is if I change FSB through BIOS then the PC might not boot and of course overheating the cores.
Any help/suggestion(s) will be welcome.
I would recommend you check out IntelBurnTest as it will speed up testing and provide a maximum temperature for you to test before you start. You will need some temperature monitoring software that works in windows to monitor the temperature.
A PC will usually have a jumper which has 3 pins, usually pin 1&2 is the usual position and pin 2 &3 is the reset position.
If your PC does not boot you will have to remove the CMOS battery and move the CMOS reset jumper to pins 2&3 for a few seconds then MAKE sure you move it back to pins 1&2. Then re-insert the battery. If you take the overclocking slowly you should not have to do it too often.
You have to check for stability when it SEEMS stable. For that I recommend IntelBurnTest

Thanks for the info. I’m going to change my CPU cooling solution before I attempt any OC. I’ll check out the site.
Using a Linux Live CD can be a good way to test basic stability as it will mean that your hard drive will not get corrupted if windows hangs, which can happen. There was a Linux CD that was made to test stability but it is a bit old and did not work too well when I tried it. A more recent Linux Live CD might be a better option if you can find one which includes software which would work the CPU well.
10q , i’ll lookup Linux Live CD.
