Mozilla Firefox

August 7th, 2016

Uh I dont know if this a problem with firefox or my computer. I think its the latter. Anyways, I cant open up any site with firefox. I can with IE8 or chrome. I cant even access the mozilla site using either chrome or IE8
I have eset smart security installed, it updates regularly, and in the ‘personal firewall’ section, it doesnt even show firefox. It shows IE8 and chrome when i open them up though.
could this be due to some spyware/trojan?

Did you try clearing all of your private data and restarting Firefox?
Go to “Tools -> Clear Private Data” in the menu. Then check all the boxes. Restart Firefox afterwards and see if that helps.
You could have a proxy set by mistake. To fix it, follow these steps:

  1. Go to “tools -> options”
  2. Click on the “advanced” icon.
  3. Click on the “network” tab.
  4. Under the “connection heading, click the “settings” button.
  5. Click on the “no proxy” radio button.
  6. Click close or OK on all open dialogs.

If that doesn’t work, try disabling your addons by starting Firefox in safe mode:
firefox -safe-mode
If that doesn’t work, try creating a new profile:
firefox -profilemanager
The above suggestions focus on Firefox, but it is possible that spyware or a trojan is causing this.
It also may be a good idea to temporarily disable eset for testing purposes to ensure that it isn’t causing the problem.
Answer #2
i tried temporarily disabling eset’s firewall, but still i couldnt get firefox to open any sites, nor could i access the mozilla site from IE8 or chrome.
i did clean firefox’s cache, private data and everything
i also tried uninstalling firefox, deleting the mozilla folder in c:\documents and settings\user\application data\, and then reinstalling it
i dont understand why i cant access mozilla’s website from the other browsers

Here are a few other things to try:

  • Try clearing your DNS cache. Type this into a command prompt:
    ipconfig /flushdns

  • Try pinging the mozilla website.
    ping www.mozilla.com
    OR
    ping 63.245.209.10
It should come back with something like this:
Pinging www-mozilla-com.glb.mozilla.com [63.245.209.10] with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 63.245.209.10: bytes=32 time=69ms TTL=246
    Reply from 63.245.209.10: bytes=32 time=68ms TTL=246
    Reply from 63.245.209.10: bytes=32 time=69ms TTL=246
    Reply from 63.245.209.10: bytes=32 time=69ms TTL=246
    Ping statistics for 63.245.209.10:
        Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
        Minimum = 68ms, Maximum = 69ms, Average = 68ms

  • Scan for viruses.
  • Try another computer.
  • Also, if it is possible take you computer to a Friend’s house and try using their ISP.
  • Another way to determine if it is your ISP or your computer is to boot to a “live” linux CD such as Mandriva and use the browser there to go to the mozilla website.
