Why is it at 99%.
I only have Hotmail open and . They are not even running any plugins.
Please help.
My CPU is 2.00 and ram is 2GB DDR2.

Answer #1
What version of Firefox do you have?
Does it just spike up to 99% or does it stay there constantly?
Answer #2
The newest version and it just shoots up randomly.
It’s still doing it.
Answer #3
Try This Fix To See If It Helps
Type about:config into the FIrefox 3 RC1 location bar and tell it youll be careful (youll see what I mean).
When the list of configuration options shows up, type cache without the quotes into the search bar as shown above. A list of all entries will appear with the word cache in them.
Change the state of the browser.cache.memory.enable entry to false by double clicking on the entry itself. Make sure the state has indeed changed to false.
Restart the browser and youre done.
Answer #4
Done Kali, let’s see if it works.
Answer #5
That’s very strange, , especialy with no extensions and only 2 websites loaded.
,
Why would disabling the memory cache cause it to not use as much CPU?
Mine is turned on and maxed out (65536) and it works fine. I am also running Windows XP SP2.
If you are on vista or XP SP3, , that may have something to do with it.
Answer #6
I am on Windows XP SP3.
Great Kali, that still hasn’t solved the problem.
Answer #7
when your CPU is at 99% is the memory usage also increasing and it just shoots up randomly.
so you can’t make it do it ?
or if you close ff and reopen with the same sites it duz it again ?
if you open “Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)” duz it do it ?
Answer #8
When you say your CPU is “2.00” you mean 2.00 gigahertz, right? Is it single core or dual core?
Mine only jumps up to 48% or so when it is loading a huge page with lots of things on it such as images, etc. My CPU is a dual-core so the most that any one process usually consumes is 50%. It might go to 100% if I was on a single core, however.
If it just jumps and doesn’t stay at 100%, I would say that is normal. If it goes to 100% and stays there for awhile, then something fishy is going on such as a hung script.
For example, if I load a page with lots (I am talking in the thousands here) of rapidshare links, Firefox will freeze. That is because I have a link checker script that runs and checks every rapidshare link when the page is loading so I don’t have to bother with dead links. When this happens, Firefox presents a dialog in which you can choose to abort the script or let it continue. The puzzler in your case is that there is no script like this running.
Answer #9
The memory usage increases yes.
I don’t know which site it goes up on just yet.
Before it shot up when I had multiple tabs open.
@TheBean:
It is Intel Pentium Dual CPU, it stays at 100% for about 5 minutes or until I close firefox and restart. I have 2 link checker grease monkey scripts, but it doesn’t go high on .
Answer #10
I also have this problem, sometimes when i have firefox open my cpu shoots up to 99% randomly, it doesn’t effect the memory atall. When i close firefox and re-open it, its fine again. Strange.
Answer #11
have you made sure your system is clean? if not run an AV & spybot s&d(or alternative) to make sure there’s no spyware/virus/malware that’s causing the problem.
Answer #12
somethings telling me its some sort of malware/virus
Answer #13
Nope nothing like that, i doesnt affect my computers performance atall its just annoying because my computer has an alarm to tell me that my cpu is 100% lol, i think it may just be the Firefox beta. Anyone else had this problem?
Answer #14
5 minutes is out of the ordinary. Maybe you have something that has corrupted your firefox profile. Try creating a new profile and see if you get the same results. To create a new profile, completely exit Firefox. Then, run this command line from the run box:
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -profilemanager
Then click on the “create profile” button. Follow the wizard and make up a name. Then select the profile name you just created and click the “start firefox” button.
If that solves it, you can experiment by switching back and forth to your original profile.
Answer #15
you can try uninstalling and re-install it
Answer #16
I have just been doing a spot of googleing and found a lot of people with similar problems. One solution i found was:
1. Enter about:config
2. Change “browser.cache.memory.enable” to False
Apparently this fixes the problem so ill try it out but the problem does occur randomly for me so ill give it a week and come back to yas

Answer #18
What antivirus/security apps you got? Disable them and check
Answer #19
Perhaps you should use a program named “Advance SystemCare” from iobit.
Its a optimizing program which also optimizes your browser as well as your computer .
Use W-bb to find it.
Hope it helps

what is the RC1 location bar??? what does RC stand for?
RC means release candidate, you can think it as a late beta version. I guess it was written before Firefox 3 was released. Location bar is the address bar, where you use to navigate to different pages.

RC1 stands for “Release Candidate 1”. The release candidates are the releases right before a major version is released. They are after the alphas and beta versions. So, there was Firefox 3 RC1, then Firefox 3 RC2, then Firefox 3 RC3, then Firefox 3. Since Firefox is now past version 3 (3.0.10 to be exact), those earlier versions of Firefox are out of date.
The location bar is just another term for the address bar, or where you type in the URL of a website that you want to visit. This has stayed basically the same across all versions and the about:config page is in all versions of Firefox.
Answer #22
Try starting firefox in safemode option
Answer #23
The fix i mentioned previously and works fine for me, i no longer have this problem
Answer #24
@ & : thanks man…
Answer #25
I seem to remember having a problem similar to that myself quite a while back and I believe it was a virus that I had been infected with. I reformatted and the problem was gone. Maybe you should download the geek squad MRI disc and do a full scan and see what you come up with.
Answer #26
Go opera
