A few Playstation 3 questions…

since the PS3 was released i knew it had hard disk so i wanted to ask:
1) is it possible to play PS3 and PS2 games from the hard disk not from a DVD..?
and i not,what do people do with the PS3 games posted here..?
2)what does it means a NTSC game and a PAL game..? and can they both run on the console without problems..?
3)does saving requires a memory card or the data can be saved on the hard disk..?
