Getting guitar, which one and and what for type?

August 7th, 2016

I want to play guitar, ( i know it’s hard) But i’m a total newbie with guitars, so no experience at all. I’ve got my eye on a used ( but in good state) Behringer electrical guitar with amp. It;s a starter set. But anyway what’s best to start with an acoustic or electrical? I want to play Coldplay and some RHCP songs.
Hope you can help me

Answer #1
Use/buy whatever sound you like. Electric or acoustic both have their disadvantage/advantage over each other, so I can’t say whats best . Acoustic has a wider fretboard I believe than electric. Should make it easier to grab chords on acoustic. But gets harder with solo’ing on acoustic I think.
Answer #2
acoustic
cheaper, and best to learn on,
the distance between the fretboard and the guitar is higher on an acoustic and to electric
which means that when you play, you get use to play harder, which someway improves your skills
Answer #3
Well mate,
If you want to play soft acoustic coldplay songs which involve very little lead guitar i suggest the acoustic,
also if you want to learn rhcp depends if you like the electric/original style or the acoustic. It is vital that you learn on both ! Because say if your the rhythm guitarist and on the night the lead goes down ill or something and they cant play you need someone to fill in.
Well i have stuck to my acoustic and i have taught myself so, i would suggest acoustic because the fretboard is wider also it strenghens your fingers, so when you go to play electric which has a thinner fretboard you find it soo much easier.
Its up to you mate.
if you want an electric go for an Ibanez they are a fantastic name and also quite cheap. And if you want to go for an acoustic you can go for a Fender or another type of version like the starcaster or something like that.
Spend around 100-200 on the first guitar as you will learn alot on it and upgrade when you feel you need to, Hope i helped mate. Tony.

Thanks guys i really appreciate the effort
I know it’s better to learn on acoustic, but the problem is that they are already wining about the amount sound it will produce So i Think i’m going for an electrical (WashBurn) and maybe in a few months from now i’ll buy an acoustic. ( You can plug earphones in an amp )

Do you have “blokker” in holland? cause in belgium they sell starter sets for not that much money.
Or you can buy J&D guitars. quitte cheap to, and quality isnt that bad as well. for starters you shouldnt pay that much, you can do that when youre better:p
i think with a electric starter set like that you can learn better than accoustic cause of the genre you want to play.
Answer #6
Yes we have Blokker in Holland, but why? They don’t sell guitars, do they?
Anyway, the Washburn set is 225EU but I’m planning to keep it a while before switching from guitar

Hmm.. well.. RHCP occasionally use acoustic guitar, but more often than not, john frusciante will use a fender type electric guitar. Acoustics are less fuss, as in u just need to tune it, keep it clean, and play it.
Electric u need an amp, and it has a few electrics inside. But fender stratocaster type shape guitars are usually pretty easy to play. good for beginers. then again, it can be nice learing a few chords on an acoustic. so.. the choice is yours
I guess… Electrics can kinda go clean sounding and ‘acoustic’, but acoustics cant go ‘electric’ without fitting a pik-up to em.
Answer #8
Washburn is a great guitar… I started playing on electric so I will say that electric is better. And if you want an acoustic sound, there is a hardware thing which I forgot its freaking name that will make your electric sound as an real acoustic. For me, electric, and if its Fender even better.
Answer #9
here’s some advice…
stay away from those cheap “starter sets”. they have terrible sound and are not worth the money. if you want a cheap brand that sounds good look up epiphone les pauls or even harmony branded guitars.
imo get a electric. they are easier to play and learn on as with acoustics you have to press 10x harder on the strings than electric.

Have you made your choice yet mate?
let me know how you get on.
Answer #11
If you haven’t chosen your first guitar, go for an accoustic until your chord hand gets stronger, it has a higher action (strings are further away from the fret board), and you will become a more accomplished guitarist from the extra effort needed. If you are going to spend 200 Euros plus i would go for a fender, but you should try first. See which make and type of guitar feels comfortable to you. Everyone is different, some people like les pauls due to the square neck some like gibson SGs wide neck but cut away body. Always try before you buy. Good luck and let me know what you went for. I personally like fender stratocasters and Wesleys.

I wish to add a few words about it… I’m playing guitars more than 20 years, I started with some unknown models and same type of amps and I was soon very disappointed with performance in comparison with sound of my guitar heroes. In your case it’s not good option to buy a new one guitar & amp, so try to get from pawn shop some kind of brand name for sake of god sound. Yes, electric guitar demand amp (there are few groups of amps: clean, low gain, hi-gain…) and it’s depending of your style of music. Acoustic guitar is cheap solution ’cause if you one day give up it will not be big miss; with electric axe it isn’t. Fender make good affordable acoustic & electric guitars, also Ibanez and Dean! All is up to you.
