Upgrading My Computer

January 28th, 2020

I am wanting to upgrade my computer. Firstly I have a couple of queries .
Here is my PC Spec:
http://www.superwarehouse.com/Lenovo_3000_J100_8253/82534LU/ps/1489442
Firstly, what type of Processors can I upgrade to thats compatible with my motherboard ?
Also, is my Power Supply enough for the ATI Radeon HD3850 512MB DDR3 AGP Graphic Card ?

Answer #1
i think you can put a Core2Quad in at the most in that motherboard.
and for the psu, probably not.
Answer #2
Therefore, is my motherboard compatible for me to use the core2quad in my 755 socket (where my P4 is now) ?

Nope. Its time for a major upgrade.
Answer #4
yea i would have to agree with the above…time for an upgrade in my opinion..
cpu wise i dont really know intels…so cant help you there
but … if you do manage to upgrade cpu and to that gfx that psu is way underpowered … you want atleast a 450watt in my opinion

i dunno about a major one, i believe the core2quad is still an ok processor. but saying it wont fit is kinda stupid to say as it clearly can.as long as you get a good psu and a better gpu most games should be fine.

Core 2 Quads are brilliant! ive got a q6600 (yes it is overclocked to 3.5ghz) and it’l run anything you throw at it!
get a Q6600, 2gb or 4gb of ddr2 @800mhz a new PSU @500w minimum, and a HD3850 and you will be more than sorted!
although to be honest, the GPU will bottleneck the processor so you could just get a core2duo!
Answer #7
whats the best processor I can upgrade my motherboard with ? can I still use DDR RAM with Core2Quad ?
I only want to use the PC for Video Editing & smooth Hi-Def playback.
Answer #8
If you want to go crazy get a core2quad otherwise a core2duo or even a decent pentium D will be sufficient!
Do you know the model number of your motherboard? If you do it would greatly help.
Make sure you get at least 2gb of ram and if its ddr make sure its 400mhz
If your only video editing you might get away with a cheaper graphics card than the HD3850
But yeah with your motherboad model number and a budget I can tell u exactly what to get
Answer #9
This was from Everest: Motherboard ID = 03/24/2006-SiS-661FX-6A7I4G0MC-00 Also, Computer -> DMI -> Motherboard -> Product showed : GA-8S661FXM-775
Motherboard CPU Type = Intel Celeron D 341, 2933 MHz (22 x 133)
CPUID CPU Name = Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.93GHz
I don’t really have a budget, I’m just deciding if Core2Quad can fit & be compatible with my Motherboard based on my Specs given.

Definitely not recommended, 250W from Lenovo will only lead to “smoking” results.
A complete overhaul would be the better option here; nothing is worth upgrading.

I only want to upgrade Processor & Video Card & now the Power Supply.
How big PSU will I need ?
Answer #12
I only want to upgrade Processor & Video Card & now the Power Supply.
You’ll only be able to upgrade to old, extremely outdated processors, this doesn’t include any C2Ds or C2Qs. Buying an AGP video card is also quite pointless, both ATI and Nvidia stopped making AGPs. Hence, a complete overhaul would be best and would actually be saving you money in the long run.
How big PSU will I need ?
If you’re only using single-card setups, a 400W power supply from a reputable brand should be sufficient enough, however, for more flexibility, 500W+ from a reputable brand would be best.

JUST, can i upgrade to C2Q or not ?
I want a Core2Quad Processor with the ATI HD3850 512mb AGP GFX Card & a 500W PSU. That possible.

No.

Answer #16
why ?
Because your motherboard doesn’t support it. Just because you have the 775 socket DOES NOT mean you can use any processor that uses that socket. Your motherboard has to support it to be able to use it and according to the manufacturer’s website: http://tw2005.giga-byte.com/Motherboard/Support/CPUSupportList/CPUSupportList_GA-8S661FXM-775.htm
It doesn’t.

You did see his motherboard and chipset.
Even if he did a bios flash, his current setup will heavily bottleneck C2Q. Even so, the price of a C2Q, you can get a rig that runs cooler and cheaper.
Maybe even more efficient then that thing.
Answer #19
right,
currently you don’t have a pentium 4, you have a celeron D.
If you were to upgrade the best you are going to be able to do is to upgrade to high end pentium 4, 2gb of RAM, a hd3850 and a new 500w psu
It wouldn’t advise upgrading this machine though, it would be more cost effective to build a new one!
Id say your looking at about 250 for a complete overhaul to a quadcore system, which aint half bad!
let me know if you want me to spec one up for you and i will!

Looks like a complete upgrade is needed.
