Why is my laptop doing this now..

Dell inspiron e1505
(Before you read this please keep in mind I have a lot of experience and any simple solutions can be thrown out, such as changing the power options/settings advanced settings, cpu settings, graphics settings etc).
This is a somewhat new problem but I’ll be using the computer for anywhere from 10-30 minutes when I can hear the fans go on and the computer will slow to a crawl.. from like 1.7ghz to something like 900mhz… just slows down really bad. It’s got a pentium dual core in it.
Now I have windows 7 on one partition and vista on another, and it happens to both.. along with my other means of detection, I’m almost SURE this isn’t a virus/malware problem
I can barely use this computer anymore

Answer #1
Did you make sure your PC is turned on?
Jk. Did you check the CPU thermal throttling setting (I think it’s in the bios) or SRT power saving mode?
Answer #2
oh crap you’re right.. no wonder it’s so slow haha
I’ll check those now if I can..
Answer #3
It’s obviously because of throttling. The laptop does this to save energy and to produce less heat. If you have a laptop running at full speed for a long time it will burn.
Answer #4
It sounds like a overheating HD.
Answer #5
ooh i never thought of the hard drive you think that’s it?
I disabled speed step, even took the case apart and cleaned everything out.. and those two things helped a bit but it still does it sometimes.
