VNC tunnels over SSH

I was advised if I wanted to VNC viewer to control my remote computer it’s ideal to make sure it’s encrypted, as the data can be intercepted like plain text
This will be for two Mac’s; I’m only learning so don’t go too hard on me…
I’ve port forwarded both standard SSH 22 and VNC 5900 ports to the Mac computer in question, I believe this to be correct ?
ssh -p 22 -NL 5900:127.0.0.1:5900 user@ipaddress
I then would load apple screen share (built in VNC client) and connect to
ipaddress:5900
So would this then be secured through the SSH? Or am I being very stupid and misunderstanding something
