9800 GT 1GB Green Important Question

August 7th, 2016

So guys, let me start off by saying i just recently purchased a Palit 9800GT 1GB Green
Now just recently i noticed the great OC potential on this card as even after 20% increase in clocks the load temps seem to hover around 64-65C with the fan at 30% and keep in mind that the cards maximum temp is 105C
Ok so lets come to the real problem, this card DOES NOT have external 6-pin pci power plug and therefore can only draw 75Ws of power from the pci-e slot. So this means that even though the card can run with higher clocks for some time it tends to crash after some time as the power withdrawal increases with operating temperatures.
Now lets come to the big question;
Even though this card does not have a 6-pin connector the card still has the six solder points and screw holes on which the 6-pin would normally be. I was wondering if I were to solder on a connector and hook it if it would some how actually draw power (maybe with additional flashing?) so that i could further overclock.
Now I know this isnt recommended, it voids the warranty and it isnt safe. I dont want to hear about that, I just want to know if this could work, why they left the connectors there etc.
Here are some pictures of the card, look to the very right top corner to see six dots (3 cant be seen coz of the small wires in the second pic) those are the connectors.

Theortically its possible that you can do it since its just a cutdown version.
But think of it this way, can you spare some cash for another card if this one is screwed?
If not, don’t do it. If yes, go for it.

Agree, it you are willing to take the chance, go for it.
If you can’t afford a new card if you burn it don’t try it

I’d be very surprised if putting a 6-pin connector on there would allow you to overclock it further. I know that the PCI-E bus can provide a maximum of 75W per slot.
Answer #5
The answer remains similar. Theoretically, it is possible, but, will it work? Its a question mark. If you are sure with what you are doing, you can go ahead, I guess. Although, I dont think Palit Tech Support will answer something like this.
@ Nightmare, the card will allow overclocking upto the point it fries.
Answer #6
Its true
Correct.
Even there is an Zotac version of the card…..
9800 Eco or something……
Great card for MOBO power.
