Video conversion, preferably freeware
July 25th, 2016
I would like to do video conversion. For example:
– Reduce a DivX/Xvid AVI of 1280×720 resolution to 640×360.
– Re-encode an AVI (DvdRip or TV show found on this forum) to make it fit for a portable video player like Zen, iRiver, Cowon D2 (not iPod).
Currently I have an Insignia NS-DV4G, the software that is supplied (ArcSoft MediaConverter 2) is terrible.
I would like generic video converter, preferably freeware, so it can be used to convert video for most of players.
Thanks in advance for any help.
HAve you searched W-bb! We have Everathing!!!
That the everything that is the trouble. Please give me some hints so I can narrow down the search.
Thanks
I believe Xilisoft makes a video converter program that might help you. It’s not freeware but it’s probably the best out there.
Have you tried Total Video Converter? Look here – http://www.google.com?t=1250016&highlight=
total video converter
SUPER has been recommended around here…and is freeware…

A good all round commercial one is Total Video Converter
You can search for it in Appz .
SUPER or MediaCoder is another, both are freeware.
Hi,
Thanks very much for your help. I’ll try the softwares you suggested.
EDIT: just tried the freeware SUPER, conversion successful. Seem very powerful. I can manage to understand offered by the rich GUI. I think I am going to stick with this one.
News Update, I have tested (ordered by preference, best first)
1. MediaCoder (freeware)
2- SUPER (freeware)
3- Any Video Converter (freeware having nagscreen asking to update to Pro version which has profile for portable players)
4- Total Video Converter (shareware)
SUPER would be good but it’s slow. May be with some tweaks I can make it run as fast as MediaCoder or Any Video Converter because thay all use MEncoder.exe
MediaCoder is what I like the most, options are easy to understand, good speed. The only annoying thing is that it always start Firefox to display some info. Looks like the author doesn’t know programming. But actually he does it on purpose.
Any Video Converter: too simple, not enough settings. But results looks OK. Author didn’t answer to tech support request.
Total Video Converter: Shareware, Outdated GUI that I find rather confusing.
So now I’m going to stick with MediaCoder and SUPER which happen to be freeware and were exactly what had advised.
Thanks again everybody.
better use super video converter…
