Soft subbed
January 23rd, 2020
If soft-subbed are where you get the movie file + separate subtitle file
then what can I use to combine the two so I can play the foreign language movie on my divx compatible dvd player. : However if soft-subbed is where I can press the subtitle button on my dvd controller to switch subs on+off, then I’m fine z.
For me if I burn both AVI and subtitle file on a normal CD my DVD plays both as long as they have the same name. Also, here’s a small tutorial on how to hardcode subtitles to AVI:

Good luck mate ^_^
Exactly what I was after.
Clear and precise step-by-step instructions to subanavi.
Now I can dnld sme Shu Qi / Qi Shu movies and try it out
Software:
Virtual Dub – FREEWARE
VobSub – FREEWARE
DivX or Xvid codec
If you need to convert/adjust/join up your subtitles, then use Subtitle Workshop (FREEWARE) before taking these steps!!
Once you have the software, you need to install VobSub (Virtual Dub just extracts to a folder)
Load up your video file using Virtual Dub and add the TEXTSUB filter
Locate your subtitle file
Now back to the main window and now we need to recode the video ( FULL PROCESSING MODE )
I’ve used DivX in this instance, but you can use any codec ie Xvid
Back to the main window and we need to ensure that the audio remains in the same format ( DIRECT STREAM COPY )
Now we can save the new video file with a NEW name
This is an example of the time it takes on an old PC
Turns out my divx-dvd player actually plays the soft-sub
