HELP! My Laser Mouse moves erratically?

February 7th, 2020

I have two PC’s having the exact same problem. Both of them are part of the office network. When using the mouse it would move all over the place, up when I try to go down, or down when going up etc… They both were fine last week though??
I have scanned for virus with latest def on Kaspersky, and have also tried scanning for spyware/malware etc with Super Antispyware with latest def as well but nothing??
Could the mouse possibly be infected by a virus? Both are using Lasers..
Any help is appreciated.

What mousepad are you using or is it on a surface?
Answer #2
Take it off the mousepad, problem solved. At least that’s the way it was for me when I had my Razer on a cloth mousepad.

Okay will do just that. Just a query tho, is it possible for a virus to infect the mouse hardware?

Using the laser mouse on semi shiny/reflective surfaces will cause it to go nuts at times.

You don’t have a virus, it’s a well known problem for Lazor mice to move erratically without you controlling them. A firmware update sometimes fixes them, depending on your mouse manufacturer.

Thank you all, problem has been solved. Cleaned the laser and it seemed to have solved everything. Maybe there was a piece of hair or something? Also used a mat on the other and that solved that problem. Thanks all…

nice, others aren’t so lucky and it’s actually a hardware problem with the mouse
Answer #11
Make sure you don’t blow/breathe too close to the laser hole (I have a Logitech G5), otherwise you’ll render your mouse useless for five minutes. The H20 you breathe out will condensate on the glass or whatever medium the laser shines through, rendering the mouse useless for a short period. It’s annoying.
Answer #12
That has happened to me a number of times because I have cats. My cursor starts jumping everywhere, I turn my laser mouse over and sure enough, there’s a tiny piece of cat hair! It drove me nuts until i figured it out.
