I want to buy a PS3…
August 27th, 2013
– Can I plug an external HDD and play its contents? (e.g. Downloaded ISO’s, Movies, Etc)
– Should I jailbreak it first to play downloaded games?
That should be it. Thanks to anyone who will help me
1. Yes, you can. I don’t remember how though, since I now own an Xbox 360
2. It depends on what firmware revision you have, you can only JB 3.55 and below.

can answer your questions.
you have to jb to play downloaded games, but you can only jb 3.55 and below, but you cant play your downloaded games online.
you can plug in external hdd or usb sticks, as long as they are FAT32 the ps3 will recognise them. i use to play xvid movies off my hdd. (it doesn’t recognise mkv)
Yes you can play most things so long as its under 4gb fat32 limit, fine for non-hd stuff. If its over 4GB you will have to stream it to the internal HDD and being probably mkv you need to do a very quick process “MKV2VOB.exe” or if you jailbreak get showtime and play mkv (and others) directly.
So based on your answers… I think it’s better to buy xbox360?
its easier to mod the PS3 but you just the need the right FW. you might find some on ebay.
