Since it is a portable app, I didn’t think it would require an installation–but it does. Anyone know if there is an uninstall process or can I just delete the installed folder from my hard drive?
is there an uninstall option in the 7-zip folder ?
it listed in add/remove progies ?
i havent tried installing it yet. im curious how it works first…
on 1st run did it integrate into your right click menu ?
i havent installed it yet so i dont know. im curious if anyone has experience with portableapps programs and knows about this issue…
90% of all portable apps don’t require installation, and are just an EXE. however, if yours does require an installation.. it most likely doesn’t have a preset uninstaller from add/remove programs. if it doesn’t, simply delete the folder, then proceed to removing the registry entries that involved that program.
you probably won’t need to do that, but that’s depending if the program has an uninstaller. the only way to found out really is to install it.
You can delete the folder. Since its portable, it wont touch your registry or wont leave any traces behind. Deleting a software from portableapps is the same as uninstalling.

if it’s an install, then it DOES write to the registry, pretty sure.
That installer is more like an extractor (similar to 7zip or WinRAR SFX archives) and has the portable app inside. There is no actual installation taking place…

have you tried any of the programs from portableapps? or is it just your guess?
I’ve tried a lot many programs from Portableapps. I’m using portable firefox right now, actually.
I’ve also tried 7zip, Notepad++, GIMP, InkScape, Pidgin, VLC, Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird and many, many more from Portableapps.
So, its not a guess. 🙂
And here’s something from the Portableapps site:
- A portable app works from any device (USB flash drive, portable hard drive, iPod, etc)
- A portable app works as you move computers and your drive letter changes
- A portable app's features continue working as you move computers
- A portable app doesn't leave files or folders behind on the PC
- A portable app doesn't leave registry entries behind except those automatically generated by Windows
- A portable app is optimized for use on removable drives
- A portable app doesn't require additional software on the PC
- A portable app doesn't interfere with software installed on the PC
is correct, it’s not really an installer, more like an extractor. you choose where the files are dumped, and it puts them there. the program will be 100% self contained. to get rid of it, just delete the folder, and it’s completely gone.
