Is HDD recovery important?

I have a folder on my D: drive with 7gb worth of mainly .swm files and some odd files? I don’t even know what this folder is, should I delete it?

Recovery is very important in case you come across some issues on your system. It’s always handy to have it ready to use.

When most sensible people buy a new pc or lappy, the first thing they do is get rid of the recovery partition to make some extra space (often up to 10GB) and do a fresh install of untouched Windows.
Pre-loaded Windows comes with all kinds of crap installed from the manufacturer.
To the OP – it’s up to you what you decide to do, I don’t know if you know how to install Windows if you ever run into issues, although it is fairly straightforward, and plenty of people here would help you.

Recovery is when you want to get something back
The stuff you’re talking about seems like temp data.

SWM file is a Splitted Windows Imaging File. The Windows Imaging Format (WIM) is a file-based disk image format. It was developed by Microsoft to deploy its latest Windows operating system releases, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, which use it as part of their standard installation procedure. If the created .wim file is too large for your selected media, you can split the file into smaller files for spanning across multiple media.
It’s up to you, do some googling to learn more about the risks and benefits.
