Question about torrenting or downloading virus catcher

January 30th, 2020

Does Kaspersky do a good job of virus detecting and purging?
I found a torrent for it. Or is a freeware good enough? If so which freewares?
They say that there are a lot of virus in torrents but as long as you either download or torrent a good freeware or software that obliterates the viruses as soon as they come in, you are fine, right?

Answer #1
A couple of free options that should hold you good:
Microsoft Security Essentials – comes free with certain versions of Windows 7/8 and i’ve heard good things about it
OR
Avira Antivir Personal Edition combined with Comodo Firewall
OR
Avast Antivirus (free edition)
Either of these 3 options paired with just a little bit of caution should keep you nice and safe … for free!
Answer #2
Security software is like an operating system, if you’re going to go for a premium solution I wouldn’t recommend pirating it.
As for free solutions, Comodo Internet Security (the free one) is amazing and provides some advanced tools, such as KillSwitch that’ll let you monitor what processes/services are using network traffic, what ports, etc (really useful for finding things that security software may miss)
Answer #3
Should you try to find and torrent the Codomo Pro edition or is the free one enough?
Also, do these purge existing viruses as well as preventing new ones?
Answer #4
Free one is enough, get the suite not just the firewall.
It can be ran against the while system to find any malware that’s already on there but to be honest it’s better at prevention than detection (but is still good at that too). Personally I use malwarebytes if I know for sure something is on there
Answer #5
Kaspersky is very good for what it does Other good AVs: ESET, Avast!, Avira, and MSE

Thank you. Does it not slow the computer down or anything while it’s running? I just read this from a web page:
IMHO, anti-malware IS malware by its very definition. E.g it installs crap you don't want and slows down your system.
I always chuckle when I hear people argue about which anti-malware is the best. I've not run any form of anti-virus/anti-malware on my personal machines for 20 years. Here's a pro tip, if you don't use your computer like a complete moron, you'll be ok without it 99.9% of the time. For the other 0.01% it's a trade-off that is worth it for a faster more responsive computer.
If you still feel you need your security blanket, why not just use MS security essentials? http://www.zdnet.com/avg-security-toolbar-is-the-worst-foistware-ive-ever-seen-7000001055/

Also is AVG Toolbar useless? Should I get rid of it? It was downloaded as a package from other things.
Answer #7
I always use it on fresh Windows installs and don’t notice any slow down, it’s recently become a little more bloated to make it “easier” to use but it’s still low impact on the system compared to other software.
As for AVG, it’s all preference. If it blocks things and it’s something you can work with, then keep it. If it’s annoying you and you’re only keeping it for security, just get rid of it.

Thanks.

It could be a false positive but that’s why I avoid pirated OSes/security software as you never know what’s packaged with the software, and since you don’t have to security software already to scan it it’s like Russian roulette 99.99% if it’s from a trusted uploader on TPB it’ll just be false positive or advanced heuristics marking cracks due do the fact they alter system files.

Only one comment and it’s negative, but it’s by a trusted uploader. If I were you I’d try and find the same release with more comments. It could be someone who installed the file incorrectly or someone just posting to scare people from downloading it.

What is the advantage of getting the full version of Avast instead of the free version? I am wondering whether I should get the full version from piratebay or the free version.
