can a virus work without internet?

Like say you downloaded something from the internet and you got a virus, will the virus work without internet or it will?

The only type of virus that would need an internet connection would be a keylogger.
All other viruses work without an internet connection.
The reason why a keylogger needs an internet connection is because a keylogger sends its information back to the person that created it.
all other viruses have only one purpose and that to cause mayhem and chaos within your computer.

Viruses have been around way before the internet is what it is today. So yes viruses don’t need internet to infect you. If someone brings over an infected file or usb you can get it that way too. As said above it depends on what virus is. If for example you had a pop up come up saying you need to install this or that, and you’re not connected to net i wouldn’t even think that’s safe. As you don’t know what else it’s doing to your files. So as far as getting passwords or data from computer, it will need to net to transfer it. But there are lots of viruses that once on computer, internet connected or not, can damage your system.
