CRC Error

I’ve been getting a CRC error a lot lately with my portable hard drive. Extracting a .rar showed me this first, then uTorrent, and now Vuze. I’ve done CHKDSK and it has not found any problems. I also did Spinrite 6.0 @ Level 2 but it didn’t recover any bad sectors. Is there a way I can fix this?

Does it happen with just the external?

It is possible that you are having an issue with your external HDD but first, Download CCleaner if you don’t already have it. Just google for it. Its free and does a great job. When you get CCleaner open it up and run the registry cleaner. You will first have to scan, then clean.

One other question, can you access other files on external HDD without issues?

in my experience crc errors happen from hardrives that are dying or scratched. has it been dropped or smacked or thrown around?

Yes it just happens with the external. I’m able to access files with ease. It’s taken care of properly.

I still recommend a registry cleaner, but have you tried a different USB port?

Nope, I’ll try that though.
