What are facebook fan pages

can someone explain to me what exactly are facebook fan pages. There are also flash facebook fan pages? is that like a flash website but a flash facebook page? it might seem like a dumb question.
I was looking at this

does that mean that flash site can be my facebook page?

According to the Facebook Pages Manual – which you can download and use for guidance in setting up your Fan Pages – Pages were added to the Facebook milieu so that businesses, organizations, bands, and celebrities could keep intouch with their fans in “an official, public manner.”

For example. If you are an artist of some kind (musician, actor, etc) you can create a fan page. And people instead adding as a friend ,they click on the like button. Some famous people create those pages because facebook normal account has a limit of friends. Facebook pages dont have. You can have as many likes as you can get ^^
