Not receiving friends updates in news feed on facebook

It’s been going on for months now, we’ve never blocked each other, and our updates are set to public. So what could be the problem?

I found out a way to fix the problem but is hard work. Go to Friends List. Click on the Friends button next to each of your friend’s name. Under “Show in News Feed”, click on “Settings”. Then tick “All Updates”. You have to do this for all your friends.

The show in news feed option was taken away, so that’s not an option anymore. Any help is welcomed.
