Can i use my usb like a ram memory in win 7?if i can does it work better or it’s the same like before???thank you for feedback!!
Answer #1
You can do something like this, but RAM reads/writes data much, much faster than a usb stick is capable of, so much faster that trying to boost performance with a usb stick is pretty pointless
Answer #2
yeah i know that!anyway thanx for help but do you think that boosting a pc with 1 gb ram + 4 gb usb is better than just only 1 gb integrated ram??
Answer #3
if your usb stick is readyboost compatable then give it a try. u have nothing to lose.
Answer #4
Right click the drive > Properties > Ready Boost.
Answer #5
yeah i know that thanx for advice!!!

Get a Sandisk 8 or 16GB Cruzer fit, very small and about £10. Enable Ready boost on it. I use them on several lappies with Win 7 on, does the trick. They are also very handy for car mp3 players due to their size.

Your page file should be faster than your thumb drive, so I don’t really see an advantage – but maybe I’m missing something.
Based on that assumptions, I suggest you do not do that! Buying more a little more RAM is extremely cheap these days, that’s what you should probably do instead.

Believe me, I have the RAM maxed to the limit in every pc, lappie, netbook etc I own, the kids too. My newest build is getting 64GB RAM.
There is still a noticeable increase in using ReadyBoost on a flash drive with Win 7.
Don’t knock it until you have tried it – which obviously you haven’t
Answer #9
I wonder, what is it you do so you require 64GiB RAM?
I still stand by my point, with his limited amount of RAM, he gets more benefit by spending his money on new RAM instead of buying a thumb drive for ReadyBoost.

There is still a noticeable increase in using ReadyBoost on a flash drive with Win 7. Not if you have 64 gigs lol.

No. Mechanical drives are a infinitely slower in random read write and IOPS.
RAM is cheap. There’s no point in getting a USB drive just for Readyboost. Sounds really half-assed if you ask me.
Answer #11
Yes, I know that random IO is a strong suit of flash drives, but copying a file (not a text file obviously) to your regular thumb drive is a lot slower, reading it from it as well.
On second thought: Speaking about a page file, that’s random access, you’re right

Computer memory is cheap now. You can find some decently priced memory on Amazon. Not too long ago I bought two 4 GB Kingston HyperX memory modules for $40 from Amazon with no tax nor shipping. The same memory would have costed $110 with tax at Fry’s. I also bought a 16 GB Kingston flash drive for $20 also from Amazon which retailed for $50 at the time. I could use the 16 GB flash drive that I have and enable ReadyBoost.

As usual for helpdesk, the OP hasn’t stated any of his pc specs – I completely agree adding more RAM would be the best option, but if he is maxed out, then Ready Boost on a flash drive will be the only other option.

The wife uses the most RAM she’s a video editor, often does a lot of rendering.
@Parox – I’ll let you know when I’ve finished the build
I’m only gonna stick 64GB in it because I can, simple as.
Answer #14
Ready boost can increase the performance just bit but not the much. I used 4gb usb to boost my laptop but I noticed that it helps a bit. But when I upgraded the laptop on 2gb ram you will notice the big difference. Which I think usb ready boost is working but will not satisfy your needs. Better yet grab a new ram upgrade
Answer #15
The OP has 1 GiB RAM, it’s only reasonable to assume he can extend it.
Answer #16
I tried the Ready Boost USB thing and I didn’t notice any difference at all.
What really made all the difference in the world was upgrading my RAM from 4 GB to 8 GB. 100% improvement.
