Is it legal for a grandson to receive a portion of his grandmother’s Social Security Benefits?
January 24th, 2020
May differ from country to country, but in general it would be legal.
A friend of mine (whom I had a conversation with a few days ago has been in a major money bind) has been receiving a portion of his grandmother's social security benefits for the past year or so. His grandmother gets $700 per month in which she gives him $200. Is that considered legal or illegal?
it is a gift, not a SS check
gifts are legal
Its hers to do with what she wants. It is pretty lousy to take grannys money tho. IMHO
Should be fine. if US, up to $14000 can be given as a gift without paying gift tax.

If your friend has any problems, get him to get his grandma, to send myself checks and ill send half the money to your friend… I like round numbers so if your friends grandma could double the money so myself as well as your friend receive half of 400$ each a month, witch would be 200$ each a month, I will happily do it… No more questions asked!
If she gives it to him then it’s legal (taxation will depend on the country). Once she gets the money, what she does with it is her business only.
If he gets it directly, paid to him, then it’s fraud, illegal.
How come I was told that by law it is illegal for him to get money from his grandmother’s SS benefits? The money does go directly to her of course and then she proceeds to give him the amount that I mentioned.
In generosity ways maybe grand gave as a gift cared sometime she need good used or his is a care taker.
This is not illegal if he force her grand for some fund that mean his definitely need to serve prison times
You must check the question with a lawyer or state the country in which you are and I will check it for you.
The legislation varies by country.
In some countries it’s totally legal to do what you want with social benefit money, under a certain amount. In other countries those money can only be spent on certain items and services.

If you are in USA, the fact that the money are not spent for the person go against the terms of the plan. It should be illegal but I don’t think that the state will hunt down that person for this…
Using ‘s generous money laundering service via Western Union would have to be the safest bet

It’s illegal for him to get money from the benefits – but once she gets the money it’s no longer benefits, it’s HER money.
Once she receives the money no one has any say in where it goes (unless it was given to her for a specific purpose, like food stamps, etc) – she can buy food, play bingo, go to the casino, or… give it to her grandson.
It’s just that he can’t get the money directly, he can’t claim for her or get it delivered to him.. she has to get it.

Those money fit exactly with this description.
They are regulated money issued for only certain expenditures .
nothing wrong with that.

Reading that….It would be said to apply only to people who are unable to handle their own finances and use a representative payee.
With those rules listed, applying only to that representative and not where payments are made directly to the recipient..
