[SOLVED] Android phone problem

August 5th, 2016

Hi all,
Just thought I’d ask for other opinions.
Not so long ago my phone decided to just shutdown randomly.
After so many times of it happening I thought it could be an app I’d downloaded.
So I completely wiped phone and factory reset it.
Didn’t help.
I’ve since discovered that once it shuts down, I can’t reboot it unless plugged in and charging.
Phone could be fully charged but if using off charge, can sometimes shut down after a few minutes.
On reboot phone is saying it’s 98% charged.
So since it works fine when plugged in, do you think it’s a battery problem?
I have AVG virus on it and it tells me battery health is good.
But would that just say it anyway?
My main concern is I don’t want to replace battery, if it’s a phone issue,
I’ve read that some android phones develop this problem.
I didn’t actually buy this phone, so from that point of view I won’t be losing out on it.
But it’s a little frustrating that I’m now stuck with only being able to use net when plugged in,
I should also add, that phone is fine throughout the whole day if I’m only texting.
So I’m not sure if using the net is putting drain on battery more than texting does, and that’s why shutting down.
Any ideas please.
EDIT :
I should also mention if phone isn’t on charge and shuts down, trying to turn back on only get to first screen and then shuts off again.
No matter how many times trying it, won’t reboot unless plugged in.

Answer #1
Just a wild guess but possibly the battery is the problem…
Answer #2
Since we don’t know what mobile your talking about, see if it has a removable back cover.
Go to a shop and try a knockoff battery, if its stable your good.
If not than you could try getting it into fastboot and unlock the bootloader and flash in a recovery.
Do a complete wipe + fresh install with another popular rom if it has any.
Check XDA.
I’m sure small mobile shops will try to help you, it is a potential sale of a battery or service.
Answer #3
You’re contradicting yourself.
You say it only works when plugged in, then:

I should also add, that phone is fine throughout the whole day if I'm only texting.

What is correct?
It’s a battery problem, buy a new battery or TRY and calibrate the 1 you have.
Good luck.
Answer #4
Most likely a battery problem.
If it’s a removable battery, make sure contacts are clean.
Answer #5
Yes this is what I don’t understand, if using Internet phone will shut down, but it doesn’t if I don’t.
So phone will last all day with no problems texting.
If it was a battery problem, why not do the shutdown thing all the time.
That’s why I mentioned whether being more drain on battery while browsing Internet could be the problem.
Phone is a Samsung Galaxy Trend.
I’ve had phone off charge since posting, and now after plugging back in, phone says battery fully charged after a minute or so of plugging back in so I can use it.
Answer #6
Get a new battery. My phone had exactly the same symptoms. New battery fixed it.
Answer #7
I’m still not sure if it’s a battery problem or a phone one though.
Battery for it costs quite a lot, compared to phone cost.
Why I’m confused whether it’s battery or phone is because if I shutdown phone myself, it will reboot.
If it shuts itself down, won’t reboot unless plugged in.
That honestly sounds like a phone problem to me.
I’m going to take it to be checked out in a few days.

android have a file called batt_stat (or similar) this can become corrupt at times reboot your phone into recovery mode or use a custom recovery if you have one and proceed to wipe the dalvik cache (you will not lose any data) reboot your phone and use as normal until its completly dead (dont force it by turning up brightness etc) once your phone is 100% dead plug it LEAVE it turned off until it is 100% charged now battery stats will be recalibrated and see where you go from there

Thanks for tip.
went to recovery mode.
There is only 2 options about wiping.
First is wipe data/factory reset , which don’t want.
And wipe cache partition.
When trying wipe cache partition it gives error.
The interesting thing, is after a few reboots, battery went from 98% straight down to 73%
Did I do something wrong or phone won’t let me do it.
All other options are about updating.

So how am I being ignorant?
Sorry I didn’t make it clearer that I was responding to your question.

Take out the battery(and check if it’s flat, if it has a bulge then it’s the battery) and run the phone only with the charger. If it’s not possible, then we need a makeshift battery. Every battery with the same parameters will suffice. I will guide you through using another, but I need you to send me a photo of the battery and phone contact points. If you have a multimeter, we can also test it without playing a new MacGyver episode. There is another option too: dial this number *#*#4636#*#* Post here the results. I have something else in mind too, let’s reserve in case these things don’t work out.

Battery seems flat and no bulge.
Phone won’t work without battery in, just tried.
Can’t take photo of battery or contact points, as no way to do it.
*#*#4636#*#*
Tried this, but it’s not supported on my phone.
It wants to ring it.
Thanks for your input.
About wiping the dalvik cache.
I’ve read that if you factory reset phone, it’s the same thing as wiping it.
I’ve done that before.
Only thing haven’t done is let battery go completely flat and recharge while off.
EDIT:
SOLVED
Turns out it battery has gone.
It does bulge apparently. They told me these only last around 500 charges.
My battery is removable But what I don’t get with the newer phones is why can’t remove them if they are barely lasting a year.
I see no point getting a new battery for this phone.
So i will have to get another phone now.
Thanks for all the help everyone.

I see no point getting a new battery for this phone.
They’re like AU$18 on ebay…
Answer #15
I don’t think I saw the make and model of your phone ?
But if you can get one reasonable on eBay or the like, then I would go for it.
Quite often you will get 3+ years from a battery..
( I just changed one in my old phone that would be about 5 years old.)
I got an el cheapo phablet and to change batteries on that it would need
prying apart and then a soldering iron to connect it, and that’s if you can find a battery the right size !
I have had that “bulge” problem with quad-copter batteries.
Their voltage seems right on test, but they won’t supply the needed current under a heavier load. Sorta like your phone..

Phone is a Samsung Galaxy Trend.

Cheaper than mine. I paid $24 for a battery for my S3 a couple of weeks back.
Answer #17
Thanks, I may look into that.
Not a fan of eBay, but know someone who would buy for me.

I’ve only had phone for 9 or so months.
That’s why I’m a little disappointed about the battery life.
But have no receipt and don’t even know where it was bought, I didn’t buy it and they’re not sure.
