Is Modding Your XBOX 360 “Hard Or Ez”?

December 10th, 2013

My nephew wants me to check into modding his XBOX 360 being I have my desktop PC over his house, I have read a few topics here on W-BB about this subject where as there is a chip which you would have to manually install inside your 360 console, a method which requires soldering.
But then I see vids on You tube where they just flash the 360 CD-Drive with a program which has been stored on a USB stick.
I have also read that simplicity of flashing the drive mainly relies on the type of CD-Drive you have in your 360 console, some CD-Drives are easier to flash than others (namely a BenQ CD-Drive).
The You Tube vids that I have ame across appear to be like 3yrs old, maybe you guys have some referral links to modding with possibly some tut vids?
I am surprised someone here has not written a detailed thread exclusively on this subject?
Thanx in advance

Read the JungleFlasher manual and decide for yourself.

It’s very difficult. You don’t want to ~censored~ up your nephews xbox. I suggest finding a pro who knows what they are doing. If they ~censored~ up, they owe you a new xbox

I did two a few years ago. At least then it was relatively easy. Opened the xbox, connected the DVD drive to PC SATA connector, booted the flash CD and it all worked well. Put the xbox back together and all was fine. Newer models are harder to flash though, and cannot be done without some soldering involved.

These days you’d be better with the newer J-tag hack (Fairly good, expensive) or something like a Xkey (Acceptable).
Constantly taking apart your Xbox 360 to update the drive firmware is just too much of a hassle and time consuming.
You might want to consider some factors, if its a fairly old console (housing Xenon, Falcon, or Jesper motherboards), you might want to use the Xkey 360 as its reusable on other consoles.
With older consoles I’d do a fan mod (9V or 12V, 12V is a bit too loud) with a screw mod (AKA X-clamp), with a thermal paste replacement.
Or if you just can’t be bothered, replace the console (this will depend on budgets) as the older ones are prune to failures.

Ye, it’s easy, basic follow instructions, as long as u have basic computer skills.

The XBOX 360 in question has a 2008 Phillips Lite On CD-ROM Drive, would that be a fair assessment as to say it’s ez to flash mod that particular drive being it’s a older model 360, compared to newer models that they have released which they probably mod proved the CD-ROM drives?
Would anyone know where to acquire this Jungle Flash manual, I think I will give it a once over.

Majority of the Lite-Ons are a pain in the ass, there is only one model that you can flash cheaply.
