Best place to buy a replacement Netbook Battery?

October 8th, 2013

Hi
I have a HP Mini 210-1011EA
And would like a spare battery to use when travelling.
I came across this retailer:
http://www.hplaptopbattery.co.uk/hp-mini-210-1011ea-battery-44146.htm
Big 9 cell battery – Sounds good, a bit pricey.
Is this a good, trustworthy vendor?
Or do you know any better value / quality Batteries anywhere?
Thanks

Answer #1
I’ve never bought from that retailer, so don’t have a clue, but the price looks fairly decent for UK.
I normally get my notebook/netbook batteries from an E-bay shop in China that is very reliable, but they don’t have a compatible one for your netbook.
Can only find these from places I have bought from before,
5200 mAh £26 China

I have bought power tool batts from here;
4800 mAh £30 UK
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Battery-HP-Mini-210-1022TU-210-1020SS-210-1011EA-UK-/330620247880
I have a 7800 mAh battery for my Samsung NC10 netbook, and just thought I would point out that they are big, and raise the back of the netbook by about an inch.
Answer #2
Thats fine, My netbook is on a little stand anyway, with a fan under it.
So the extra battery size wont matter.
hmm that ebay £30 one looks ok.
Can you give a clue how long the battery would be likely to last?
and also the 7800mAh, would it last MUCH longer?
Thanks
Answer #3
To be honest with you, I have never really timed how long they last on a full charge.
My standard battery is 5200 mAh, and I would guess the 7800 one lasts an extra hour, hour and a half.
It all depends on what you are doing with it, eg. having wi-fi turned on uses considerably more power than using a HSDPA/3G dongle.
Answer #4
I’d be using it when on long journeys, plane etc.
wifi turned off.
just playing a point and clik style game liek broken sword or something
Or maybe watching a movie
EDIT:
Well I emailed that webssite link i posted..
heres the reply
”Our High quality HP Mini 210-1011EA battery(7800mAh) can lasting 2.5-4.5 hours.”
sounds rubbish lol
50% less life than my original battery..
I think I’ll pass…
maybe the ebay one is better.
Answer #5

Well, yes lol..
thats why i need to know WHAT pc outlet, shop or watever.
If I went ahead and bought that 7800 mAh battery, adn really only got about 3 hours use…
I’d have been utterly disgusted.

It’s hard to give an estimate on battery life, it’s like asking “how long is a peice of string ?” Every netbook has different software, hardware etc., their users do different things, use different settings etc
You could just simply purchase a direct HP replacement of the battery you have, if you are happy with the length of usage that gives you. (You are talking about having 2 batteries anyway) then you shouldn’t be disappointed. Mind you even that wouldn’t guarantee exactly the same time of usage due to manufacturing differences.
Answer #8
Hmm..
shame they cant give a more accurate clue.
I know my original battery is advertised as lasting about 8 hours with minimal use.. and it does.
Why people sell a bigger batttery that holds less charge is beyond me

Well just get another of what you already have as I said.
As mentioned, I have never timed how long my 7800mAh battery lasts compared to the 5200 one with my netbook, but it does last longer by quite a bit. I’ve never managed to get 8 hours out of my standard battery under my usage.
Sellers can’t give you an exact figure for the reasons I have already mentioned, plus, if they tell customers x hours and it only last y hours, customers will just be a pain in the ass to them.

hmm
Problem is, I dont know the mAh of my original battery, hp dont divulge.
I’m guessing by its size, its a 6 cell.
Well.. I got a camcorder battery the other month, with a big mAh, and its life wasnt very good at all.
So I’m wondering if soem batteries, even with the same mAh may just be substandard knock offs.
Anyway, I think I may try buying the 7800 mAh, and try returning it if its less competent than my smaller battery I have here.
By the way, I won’t be needing a battery for a few months – when I travel.
Is it ok to buy it now, or will its lifespan degrade while its sitting there not being used?
Thanks again

Does it not say on the battery itself ? It’s probably somewhere in the region of 5200 mAh anyway.
There is a difference with direct replacements and compatible, the compatible ones (which are cheaper) are usually made to a lower standard, a comparison would be like printer cartridges.
I don’t think it would degrade over a couple of months, especially when it’s probably been sitting in a warehouse somewhere for 12 months anyway. Just keep it in a cool place. (I have heard of people putting them in air-tight plastic bags and put them in a fridge, but never done that myself)

It sounds Crazy, but it really doesnt say the mAh on the battery.. But I also suspect its 5200 mAh
The Guys in the HP forum confirmed this… No mAh info on the battery
I guess the problem is.. ( and im suprised this hasnt been bought up before as its, a its a very big issue) – How to know what ones are direct replacements, and what ones are cheap knock offs.
I’ve even asked this question in the HP forum, and still had no solid advice about where to get a good battery.
Madness,
Its not as if im asking for the holy grail.

Can you not buy one direct from HP ?
Answer #14
Just because a battery says it’s 7800mAh doesn’t mean it is. You should look up reviews of it online. Most of the batteries on eBay are fake and deliver far from their rated amount.
Answer #15
Well, I asked in the HP forum as I say, no solution as yet.
I’m really confused about how hard it is to locate a good battery.
Cant find many performance reviews anywhere..
only a few lines of ebay feedback on some sellers…
If the HP forum cant even help me I guess I’m buggered.
HP wont even let me email them directly, becasue my warrant yis over.
How ***** lame is that??
I’m trying to buy somethign from them, and can’t get hold of them.
bunch of prats.
Can anyone reccomend a tried & tested reputable battery vendor?
If not I’ll just have to take a risk, and If I get ripped off, they’ll be getting the battery back .. shoved down an orrifice if I have to.
Answer #16
Ring up the HP Store on 0844 875 0975. The part number for their extended battery is WD546AA#ABB
or buy it on their website
www.hp.com/UK
Answer #17
I allready searched on the website, and came up with nothing…
I’m either dumb as a plank, or thier website is liek trying to break into fort knox.
Elusive twats
Spose I’ll have to give them a call tomorrow
Thanks for the number
edit:
Oh, I managed to find it..
They made it harder than looking for a needle in a haystack.
I even managed to get some ‘half’ infrormation on it:
”Battery pack (Primary) – 6-cell lithium-ion (Li-Ion), 2.8Ah, 62Whr”
Means its 2800mAh?
Lasts a long time considering then.
Anyway..
I’m not going to order from them, they want £101 for it..
The icing on the cake.
Answer #18
^lolz, it’s only $99.99 on the USA site.
£86.25 is the cheapest on Amazon (inc p&p)

Answer #19
thanks for looking my friend.
I’m going to try one of the cheaper versions..
If they can guarantee me (now that I know my battery is 2800 mAh) that thier battery can last at least as long as mine, otherwise I can have a refund.
If the ebay seller and or the 7800mAh seller agree, I can buy it / them and test out the life.
Answer #20
Best of luck
