Wireless internet control help

September 7th, 2013

I have an exchange student living with us who has their own computer. They are on the internet all night long (talking with their home friends). I do not have access to their computer.
I need the internet for my job (at night) and I want to cut her internet access at times.
Is there a program I can use to put time limits on her computer as I know the name of that computer?
*this is not an evil thing this is to get her from sleeping in her classes and failing classes. We like her and want her to do good and stay with us

None,These kind of apps have to be installed on the particular PC!

Using QOS from the router would be the most non-invasive way to make sure you’ll have enough bandwidth
for yourself,But not all routers support this feature,You could buy one that does tho,Or one that’s supported
by DD-WRT (3rd party firmware)

I have to disagree with this,You can’t just force your solution on her,That’s not the right way to go,Plus she’s not your daughter so
it’s not your place to put any kind of restrictions on her,If anything you should talk to her and hope for the best,That’s what normal
ppl do when there’s a problem,At the end of the day,You can’t help someone who doesn’t wanna be helped,Trying to force a solution
on her will just make it worse.

Some routers have the option built in.. Might be worth checking.
Go to command prompt and type in ipconfig /all and find the Default Gateway
Open your browser and type the IP address for the default gateway into the address bar.
Log into the router (details should be documented or on a sticker on the router) and try to find some settings related to access times.
Let me know how it works out.

Thanks Bridgez I am looking into that now. (I have a Netgear N600)
and to Roberto400 First it is my wireless and I can control anyone I want that is on it. I have talked with her, not that it matters but how would cutting the internet make it worst? I did not write to hear your thoughts on my life. I only posted that to keep the whiners from saying I was being mean (seen too many other posts that have people whining instead of giving an answer) but I guess I lost that bet.

And it never occurred to you that by posting this info online that’s exactly what you’ll get?

Gee that’s mature
You can’t just do what you want not giving a damn,Not when what your doing affects other ppl, Actions do have consequences
you know! (or maybe you don’t),Most adults already know this. I have to wonder if your truly an adult or a teenager (maybe at the same age as her?)

That’s good,But whether you got the point across or not is another issue,Did you actually explain to her why
school is important and that it can influence her future (college acceptance, degree, degree & job correlation) ?
How many hours of sleep does she get per night? Do you know for a fact that she falls asleep during classes
or is that just a theory of yours? Also,I’d like to point out that some ppl have attention/concentration problems (medically
known as ADD/ADHD) and can’t have any without meds (Not saying this is indeed the case,Just bringing it up as a possibility,If she does
get enough sleep,This just might be the case)

Let’s put it like this,The last thing you wanna do is piss off someone your sharing a house with,You won’t
escape the fall out.
