Software to control wireless use

August 6th, 2016

I am after software to control or slow wireless usage my flat mates have 2 laptops ipad and smart phones connected by wireless-I connect by lan cable and the connection is so slow it is virtually un usable at times-I am using network magic but it does not have this feature-it is not installed of their devices.
Thanks

This “software” would have to be installed on their computers too in order for it to work!
So it’s a bad idea. You’d be best getting a router with QoS support instead.
It’s possible that your current one already supports it, Just look up it’s manual and
check. If it doesn’t, Then check if it’s supported by DD-WRT (3rd party firmware)
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices
If no luck there, Then you’ll have to buy a new one!
Just do your research first. But there are other ways to go about it as well (If you can afford it at least) which are:
1. Tethering (If your phone supports it) Basically, It means you’ll be using your phones Internet connection on your computer.
You could do this wirelessly if your computer has a bluetooth adapter, But speed wise, You’d be best using a USB cable! (If you don’t have one and you’re unsure which one you should get, Just google it) but if you’re gonna be doing this on a regular basis, You’ll most likely need to pay extra for a larger bandwidth plan!
2. Instead of using your Phone for this every time, You could simply buy a 3G dongle from your service provider and use that instead. It’s basically a cellular modem at the size of a flash drive.
3. Get a private DSL/Cable connection just for yourself!
As you can see, All of these options involve you having a private connection of your own, This would surely save you a lot of headache, So it’s worth considering! Portability wise, Options 1 & 2 are best because not only they’d be easier to “transport” (If you decide to move out) but they’d be good for you if you have a laptop that you take with you on the go (As it’d work country wide)

Thanks Roberto 1,2, is out because the signal from a 3G dongle would be very slow because there is a bit of a dead spot here due to the distance and line of sight to the tower.
3 would be too expensive.
My Router is a Netgear NB9WMAXXn I will check if it has QoS support.
Cheers
