Which version of Kaspersky to use

Hello,
Ever since software started to get fancy, my life got worse, because I am a person who likes performance not good looks. So I was wondering, does it matter if I use an older version of kaspersky and keep the database up to date, or the newer ones, I know that the difference is that the newer ones have new stuff, which are good, but I won’t pay the price of having a slow pc to get them.
Share your opinion on this please.

What is the config of your PC?
Is it very old that it doesn’t run Kaspersky well?

IMHO … get urself the new one, since the program is updated… means better protection for ur computer… much faster than the oldies…

I have the HP G61, with 2GHZ Dual core and 3GB DDR II and 250 GB Hard drive

Use Avira, it uses a lot less resources than Kaspersky and has a higher detection rate, many false positives if set to maximum protection in a environment but still worth having.
I used to use Kaspersky myself but it’s detection rate is far too low IMO so I dumped it and moved to Avira.

The new virus, or trojan, etc. can be encrypted so that they won’t be detected by any anti virus, but that doesn’t last long, because they antivirus companies keep adding new values to the database, the question is: Who will detect the encrypted virus first? Kaspersky or Avira? Sometimes this and sometimes that. Therefore they are not the best thing, but they are good to keep your computer clean, and if I want to download a new file or I have something suspicious in my system32 folder, I don’t scan it with the antivirus, I go to virustotal.
Edit: It is not hard to encrypt a virus, that’s the real danger, any regular person can get a virus and make it undetectable in 10 mins, :S Hackers SUCK!

The test result speak for themselves, Kaspersky is no where near good enough!
The best detection rates come from Avira and it is very light on resources which is something you have asked for.
Check the Pro-active tests for detecting new threats which have no virus signatures, Avira is +10 over Kaspersky on these tests, the highest AV of the lot. But that still leaves 26% missed so nothing is foolproof. Testing with multiple AV engines is more reliable but still well short of 100%. I only look for positive results from scans and not clean results. I would never run something just because an AV shows it clean.
