I have one of those, though I broke it once, (no signs of life)
just connected it to another pc, and it was fixed
otherwise chech your disk management (right click computer, manage)
is it showing there?
if it’s only a backup, I’d say, get a new one with your warranty

I pray to god there is only repair not replacement otherwise I gonna be screwed . Its gonna take a long time and backing up Data cost lots of moolah !!
Answer #9
WD will only replace the drive with no data recovery
did you try the WD hard diagnostic drive utility to scan the drive
if you want your data back your only option might be to open the drive enclosure
Answer #10
did you try different usb ports/cables? i’ve found with external HD enclosures the mini USB the cable/connector can become loose, unlike the USB B-type cable/connector.
is the USB cable a dual head? like this?

Answer #12
3 year warranty, if available tell them to repair it.
My friend got it to them, took about 2 weeks.
Answer #13
had a problem with this as well, WD drives have never worked out for me, am using a seagate free agent go 500gb portable now, runs wonderfully.
dont worry buddy, i lost all of my data on my 500gb as well, worse of all, i had two of these drives, so double the data loss, and even worse, i have a capped data of only 10gb.
i tried to freeze mine
didnt work though
Answer #14
Today I went to a Recovery shop and Brother o Brother its gonna cost me $200minimum to recover my data . Damn I am so disapointed . Its better to download movies and software rather than pay such huge amount . How do you guys store movies & softwares?? Do you burn them to DVD or what ???????? Please suggest
Answer #15
if you want your data back your only option might be to open the drive enclosure
you try opening it up, so you can direct connect it
or
put it into the freezer for a few hours or overnite, put it in a plastic bag to keep moisture from freezing on it
take it out and fire it up and be ready to copy your stuff when you do, it may only work for a short period of time
recovered a dropped laptop drive this way and it still works months later
my theory: the head pivot arm got jammed and freezing it “shrunk” the metal to allow it to move again
and I’ve had some that needed more than one “freezing” to get all the data off of it
I’m 3 out of 6 with this method over the last 2 years
How do you guys store movies & softwares??
DVD’s is what I use
Answer #16
Any data recovery software you guys recommend free??
Answer #17
if the drives not recognized you can’t recover data
“active boot disk” in appz section works pretty good
or “getdataback” to use in windows is good
