my WD passport 500gb HDD not recognized when i put in usb 2.0 i searched some google and now whenever i put in usb it asks me to format it before use and i cant access any data pls can anyone help me?
Answer #1
Possibly Power problem..Some Motherboards just don’t supply enough power to get the drive going..
When you connect it..try listening to it and see if the drive is spinning..
Answer #2
A rear USB socket might have more power..
Does it show in Device manager and Disk management?
Got another PC or laptop you can try it on?

Is it assigned a drive letter? If not you will need to assign it one before you can access it via explorer
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows-vista/change-add-or-remove-a-drive-letter
If there’s a drive letter assigned try formatting it via the GUI or cmd (should be found in an earlier topic as well):
Open command prompt
Type following commands:
diskpart
list disk
select disk * (=the disk you wanna format, most likely disk 1)
clean
create partition primary
active
format fs=ntfs quick label="Name that you wanna give the HDD"

If any error occurs, post it back here
