Vista boot error [solved]
August 8th, 2016
“File: \Boot\CD
Status: 0xc0000001
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data”
so I booted into the vista disc, and tried to repair a couple times, didn’t work, tried the bootrec commands as instructed by technet or w/e microsoft’s support site, and nothing…
so I run a chkdsk on the drive, and it turns out most of my drive is corrupted I believe, as it finds a few hundred thousand “Orphan file segments” well, I started with a chkdsk /f which was a mistake because it now deleted about 10k maybe more of those orphan files… hopefully not enough to destroy my windows…
anyone know a way to solve this problem so I can save some files? or should I just bite the bullet, and try and let the chkdsk finish and hope for the best?
let chkdsk run
nothing else to lose now
if it fails and you need the data from the hdd get yourself a usb sata ide hdd adapter from ebay which will allow you to copy any data you need to another hdd
*sigh* well, there went 150gb worth of programs, games, custom settings, themes, wallpapers…
as well as my other HDD I didn’t realize got corrupted and there went every season of “House, prison break, fringe, lost, and heroes” again… *sigh*
don’t use diskeepers boot time defrag + vista lesson learned…

you’ve not lost anything m8
your files and progs should all be recoverable
I don’t use system restore, and the chkdsk basically formatted my drive… tried to recover partiton with hirens boot cd, multiple tools… nothing worked… formatted… re-installed…
moving on… but thanks…
