[SOLVED]Cannot install second OS (Vista/XP duel boot problems)

January 28th, 2020

Hey,
So I have a legal version of Windows Vista on SP2.
I recently used GParted Live partition manager to allocate 75 Gb to a NTFS file system.
I then downloaded this verison of XP from :
http://www.google.com?t=2734284&highlight=
(Note: I already tried a different one earlier and got the same error that I am going to describe.)
During the setup, it says it cannot find any hard drives on my computer, even though I have two partitions (200 GB devoted to NTFS for Vista, and 75 GB devoted to a NTFS file system with nothing on it, with which I would like to install XP.)
Does anyone know why this could be happening? My friend sititng next to me (who uses Vista on SP1) was able to install the same version of XP using the exact methods I used.
In case you were wondering, I am on an HP Pavilion Notebook…if that matters at all.
Thank you in advance, and I love the site and community.

Sata drive problem…You need to see if you can solve it the easy way..
Look up any sata option in the bios…If it’s set to AHCI..Change it to IDE or ATA..that should make XP detect your drive…
Answer #2
Let me try that, I’ll be right back.
Answer #3
Ok, so I’m in my system bios, but I don’t see any options for changing the SATA option in it. Where would it be?

Answer #4
Is there anything like IDE emulation mode?
If not, find your latest sata drivers and burn em to a disk and load them while booting the xp disk (it will ask press 6 to load additional drivers)
Answer #5
Where would these drivers be, and how can I load them while booting the XP disc?
I wish i didn’t have so many questions, but duel booting Windows 7 and OSX in the past haven’t caused any problems like this. Thanks again for trying to help me.
Answer #6
A good way to install dual boot will be like this:
1. Install Win Xp in one partition.
2. Install Win Vista in a second partition. Xp must be installed first before Vista, otherwise you might screw up the bootloader.
Answer #7
I have the separate partitions set up, but I need to disable the SATA options…which isn’t in my bios, nor do I have a USB floppy disc to boot those drivers while booting xp. Can i put those drives on a external hard drive or thumb drive?
Answer #8
Use nlite and integrate you sata drivers to your XP CD…In Text mode…
Answer #9
I’m in nlite at the drivers screen…where do I get these drives / find them on my PC?
Answer #10
There is a chance of your OS not booting on external USB. I’d do the old fashion way, internal.
Though I don’t know why you have to disable SATA, its kind of unorthodox.
Answer #11
I’m giving up on the disabling SATA route. Now I’m trying to locate 32-bit SATA drivers to integrate with my XP installation using nLite.
If anyone has a link to that, it would be appreciated.
Answer #12
I found the proper driver, but it’s a .exe, not a .inf like nlite wants. What do I do with this driver?

Answer #13
If you have winrar installed…Right click and extract the exe file to a folder…
Answer #14
I did this , but the file that is extracted is another .exe. Upon extracting this, I get a file called temp.IMA which nLite doesn’t recognize. Ideas?
Edit: Found the drivers as a .inf finally. Last question before burning the .iso:
– Should I import the drivers as text or PNP?
Edit: Nevermind, read ‘s post form earlier. I’m trying out the new installation disc now.
Answer #15
link to the file
Answer #16
What the Laptop name and model?
Answer #17
New problem. After disc check completes during installation, my computer reboots into Vista. Could this be a result of integrating the wrong drivers into my XP installation possibly?
Edit: Tried installation again, and everything went properly! Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it.
