Virus damage, MSE won’t work now

August 8th, 2016

I had the System Doctor virus 2014. I went into safe mode and managed to remove all the infected files however, there are some lingering issues I’m not technical enough to solve so I was hoping to have some help.
The big thing is Microsoft Security Essentials doesn’t work. It won’t let me open it, uninstall it. Even when I run as Administrator.
‘Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.”
So, I just need help uninstalling it and booting it back up so my PC is properly protected again.
Another thing is it now won’t let me download anything via firefox, my back up browsers Chrome and IE also don’t download. They download it but the files disappear. Chrome said ‘Virus scan failed’. I’m assuming this is related.
So, heads up, if you need me to download anything I won’t be able to. Even through safe mode.
Thank you to anyone who helps me out.

downaload and install MalwareBytes’ Anti-Malware. install it , just enable real time protection at the end of setup. carry out quick scan (recommed to do it in safe mode) and remove the malware.
do the scan again after computer restart.

Malwarebytes will not solve your problem. You want Malwarebytes root cleaner. witch is free and you open folder and click on fire fox icon or internet explorer icon and your problems will go away its free ware. I would get Malwarebytes also. Put them on a disk or thumb drive from another pc. I had your exact problem stay away from my search downloader.
Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit

I suggest you use minixp from hiren’s boot cd to backup your data to a secondary partition/external HDD and then make a clean reinstall. Get it from here: http://www.hirensbootcd.org
Anything else would be a waste of time. Certain Viruses/Spyware can be very hard to remove, Not to mention that Anti-Viruses don’t provide 100% protection, So you’d never know for sure whether it’s clean or not. Making a reinstall is your best option IMO. Also, You should use another computer or a Linux LiveCD (I.E Partedmagic/Puppy) to change all of your passwords/secret Q/As just to be on the safe side.
Edit: Forgot to mention, While minixp has built-in drivers for many different SATA controllers, It doesn’t support everything. So if you wanna make sure it’d recognize your HDD, You’d be best adjusting the SATA controller to IDE/Compatibility mode first (From BIOS)
