Can built in TV speakers damage a harddrive?

August 8th, 2016

Ok I once heard not to put VHS tapes near speakers because a magnet inside the speaker or something can wipe the tapes. I have a HDTV as my pc monitor and just infront of it I have some external hard drives. Are they safe from the tvs built in speakers that are literally 3 inches above my hard drives?
Answer #1
i’m pretty sure the magnet has to be directly above/on the hard drive to wipe data.
Answer #2
No, the magnets are not strong enough -even if they are unshielded and your HDD doesn’t have a chassis.

We actually tested this is a lab.. To clear an HD with magnets you’ll need a HUUUUUGE electromagnet
So you are safe

Yeah but for electronic’s sake, you should keep each electronic devices some distance. Electric and magnetic fields effect the voltage in the wires.
