undeletable file on desktop! please help!

Could not find this item. This is no longer located in (location of file on desktop). Verify the item’s location and try again.
i’ve tried downloading killbox and unlocker but no luck. it says the file is missing. i’ve tried going thru administrator command prompt but no luck. everything i try it keeps showing up as FILE NOT FOUND or something along those lines. help please!
Did you restart comp? And was it just a file you cancelled, you sure it wasnt virus? To scan for viruses use free web scanners, LINK IN MY SIGGY for virus removal has links to web scanners.
normally re-starting it will get rid of it, i’ve had that a few times too, i just re-start the computer
Try Unlocker ……….. It gets rid of most things.

I would go with this. It fixes it most of the time. Just hit F5 when on your desktop

What about going in through safe mode and trying to delete it that way?
have u try system restore and try to delete it?
Make sure Firefox is closed, or which ever download manager you used and try to refresh and delete again. If that doesn’t work, start up in safe mode and delete it. (F8 before boot screen)

change the name to Mozilla Thunderbird
change the icon to that of Mozilla Thunderbird
keep it there for show

i would do your last ditch effort but I CANT BECAUSE IT WONT EVEN LET ME CHANGE THE NAME! or move it for that matter… and i’ve just tried deleting it thru safe mode and no luck there either. i’m gonna try system restore but i’m pretty choked since i just got this computer on saturday…
ran system restore, tried deleting it, and nothing worked. still have that annoying file and i have no idea what to do with it. can’t delete or move the file so what should i do?

D/L ‘the incredible hulk’ movie again, or at least begin doing that to the same path. then cancel but do not shut you`re manager/ browser down and try to delete again…
Make a Small file with the same name (samename.sameextension) in some other folder. Now copy the file from the “OTHER” location to replace the one of the desktop , do you still get an error???
u bought it Saturday, so just return it and get a new one, problem solved
Use Unlocker to kill the processes that are preventing the file from being deleted

Use Malwarebytes’ Antimalware. it has a tool that lets you delete files.

Right click your desktop and uncheck the “Show Icons”. The download rocketdock:

yeh you should try updating your computer because vista has many bugs. and seing as how you just got it then it probably has service pack 1 with hardly any the updates

use UNLOCKER, I don’t know why people use anything different. Unlocker FTW!
if a file is needed to be deleted use dos console.
run cmd and type in del [file adress]
I have this problem a lot, I usually just restart then try deleting and it works.
try to use Spybot or adware and see if that will fix it.

EDIT: It’s Unlocker!!
Well I had the same problem, it never got deleted. I tried sys restore, restarted the pc, used command prompt , scanned it with my up to dat NIS08 but still it didnt get deleted. I was able to get rid of it through unlocker. Just select the delete option in unlocker, it will say that it couldnt delete n blah blah blah n would you like to have it removed after reboot, just click yes and voila, when you restart the pc the file wont be there. If that doesnt solve the problem, I think a full system recovery will solve the problem(it always does!).
lolz 3 epic pages and still no answer from him fixing problem. Has he scanned for viruses yet? Im pretty sure it could be a virus or something related. BTW reformat works 99% of the time for all OS related problems and only takes 20 mins to do
put it as hidden and dont show hidden files.
download a live linux distro, boot from it, browse for the file & kick it out of ur system.
i suggest trying ubuntu, or slax if u want a smaller download.

no i haven’t departed yet.. and i’ll try unlocker again and see if i have any luck. i got the updates already (when i shut it down it had like 53 or something updates installing, dunno what it’s for but yeah). command prompt doesn’t work (ran thru admin). i put “del C:\Users\(name)\Desktop\The.Incredible.Hulk_2008_700MB_HDrip_x264_-PuKE.part3.rar” and it said “file not found”. restarting didn’t work, system restore didn’t work and yeah. i’ll fiddle around with unlocker and i’ll tell you how that goes..
