edit: apparently tinyPic likes to just delete peoples pictures for no reason.
The above is a simple layout of my home network.
Currently I’m using the DMZ feature on the two routers to be able to access computer 4 from the internet, its running a minecraft server.
But I also want to be able to access computer 3 so I can send links to jdownloader so I can download movies and games to my desktop while I’m at school or just away from my house. I would also like to have access to my NAS while away too but that isn’t that important.
So can anyone here help me set this up.
the first router is stock, and the second is running dd-wrt.

Answer #1
I will drop the second router and buy a switch…Very cheap…
2 routers will only cause you too much conflict….

I’ve heard that before, how would I access more than one computer if I just had one router then?

There is no need to have two routers in that configuration, but router 2 can be used as a switch.
You don’t need DMZ to access your PCs from across the Internet.
You just need to set up port forwarding at router 1 for each network service you want to run.
Example: Computer1 is running an FTP server, so port 21 traffic is forwarded to Computer 1’s LAN IP.
Computer 4 is running a game server, so port 36528 – 36650 traffic is forwarded to Computer 2’s LAN IP.
If both of your routers have 4 switch ports, you only need to reconfigure your network topology so you have only 3 devices on the “router 2” segment, leaving the 4th port to connect router 2 to router 1.
Router 1 will function as a router/switch, and router 2 will function as a switch, not a router if you only have its switch ports in use , and not the WAN port.

what you have to realize is that all your computer on your network will have the same external ip address, so you will probably need to setup a dynamic dns account somewhere i use dyndns.org unless you have a static ip. from there you have your local network which is in one of the many private ip ranges. you probably use 192.168.x.x each computer has its own private ip addresss. so lets say your ftp server thats on port 21 and ip address of 192.168.1.105 and your dns is iliketoeat.dyndns.org on your router you would forwared port 21 from the ip address 192.168.1.105 and then from the website. you would go to iliketoeat.dyndns.org:21

Thanks for the help with port forwarding.
but now I can help you guys. This can be done with two routers rather easily actually once you understand port-forwarding.
first setup port-forwarding on router 1 to route the incoming ports that you need to the ip of router 2 and the outgoing port. I recommend using the same port for incoming and outgoing on router 1.
Now on router 2 setup port forwarding with the incoming ports being the same as the outgoing ports from router 1, then just enter the IP and port for the computer you are trying to connect to.
