Home Network I want to use wireless
November 17th, 2013
I have a Western Digital HD Live TV setup which currently uses a wired connection via a Network Switch as does my X Box 360. All works fine.
Now due to changes in the house (grandchildren) I am trying to save space, I want to move my printer which has Network wired capability to same location as Network Switch. But I want ideally to connect all the aforementioned extra devices to a wireless Network as well. This will mean that my laptop can be in any location and access via Wireless.
It seemed to me that the ideal answer would be to obtain a Network Switch that also offered wireless. It would appear that there is no such thing available as all switches are wired. I have a spare Linksys WRT 150 N wireless router around can I use that and if so how or what else is my solution please. My only other idea was a dongle or something that plugged into an RJ45 connector to give wireless but all these are USB only.
I’m not understanding the question 100% but I’ll try to answer.
You need a wireless bridge and a switch which is recommended or you could get a wireless router that supports the DD-WRT firmware. DD-WRT can put the wireless in bridged mode.
This may or may not be what you want. It’d be better if you could rephrase the question.
Wired only devices.. hmm.. well like paro has said the only way you could get that worked wireless would be to have various other wireless routers or access points.
So a router with the ability to create a wireless bridge then add some wireless bridge adapters… its not a cheap option unless your going to wire the house which is another option like I have each room has its own LAN port and a switch in the loft.
A far easier solution would be to go for ethernet over powerlines. Google the phrase for more info.
I will try to reply to all. Ethernet over power is not an option I live in Spain and ethernet over power is not a viable option. The whole house is already wired. You said rephrase the question OK
House is wired I have a Network switch but this will only allow wired connections. I have 2 devices that have only RJ45 Ehternet connectors,I want to use them wirelessly as well if possible. What extra peice of equipment do I need to add to do this? Cost is not an issue.
Then my previous post details exactly what you need.
