[Solved] File size question
August 5th, 2016
Thanks for any help.
Depends on the video… Bite rates and everything.
XviD is a codec.
AVI is a filetype.
XviD, as a file type, is an AVI file with video encoded with XviD codec.
Can’t really compare them…
Thanks for your help.
Thanks for your help.
Your probably thinking about XVid (avi) and x264(MKV). For the same resolution video, the x264(MKV) file would most likely be smaller.
AVI is a filetype.
essentially true, AVI is actually a container, as is MKV
is correct.avi is a container that may contain videos encoded by diffrent codecs.
.avi and DixV shoul be same since DivX encoding is used in avi container
You gentlemen are correct. It seems what I wanted to know was the difference in size between .avi files and DivX files. If you have two of the same movie file, and one is .avi and one is DivX, are they the same size or is one bigger?
DivX claims to have lesser size(for the same quality) tbh i’ve not seen this in reality..
If you have two of the same movie file, and one is .avi and one is DivX, are they the same size or is one bigger?
everything being equal quality (codec, bitrate, frame size & audio) – YES – they are the same size
xVid is the free open source version of DivX and most files on-line are XviD
and the size is about equal
but you are talking something here that can be any size depending on numerous settings
but .divx & .avi (in divx format) can be the same thing
Thanks everyone for your help! It was nice to have it explained
