Resetting Cable Modem

January 24th, 2020

Hi Guys, I have an ethernet connection to one pc in my house from my cable modem. I noticed if I unplug the cable from that computer and plug it into my laptop it dosent work. Now, I always have to reset the cable modem for the laptop to work, then reset it again if I want to plug that cable into my desktop again. Here are my questions:
1.Why do I have to reset the modem each time I switch computer?
2.Someone told me If I get a wireless router I can plug in and out as I feel like without resetting anything. Is this true? I will only use the router for a wired connection but would buy the wireless one because I will be upgrading soon.(plus at the moment my laptop and pc does not have wireless network cards)
I already know that most wireless routers have a couple of ethernet ports.

You can buy routers with only cable connections no wireless… And yes it is true that you can unplug ad plug in anytime… Also why you need to reset your modem is the box thinks that there is no internet connection when you unplug and
plug in. So I just disables it I guess…

phone your internet provider and let them know what going on because it shouldn’t be doing that at all i can change my cable modem to another pc without resetting the modem so it’s the modem that is not working properly
