Questions about DMCA / What Your ISP see’s.. etc

August 9th, 2013

Howdy all. Quick question for anyone who knows about this kinda stuff.
I used to be a comcast internet subscriber. One day I decided to download a file via a torrent. Well the next day i got an email from comcast that basically said “we noticed you downloaded a copyrighted file and the copyright holder has complained ” yadda yadda. in a nutshell it basically said bad boy, dont do it again, if this keeps up, we will bar you from our service.
Well i have since moved and comcast is not available in this new area. With a new ISP, and from what i have read about this ISP, is they dont play around with these DMCA notices. Basically, if you get one, they kick you off the service for ever. This, btw, is the ONLY high speed service available to this area.
My question is, is downloading files from hosting sites like , rapidshare, wupload, depositfiles etc etc,.. is this generally safe? Ie, can my ISP monitor what im downloading?
I know torrents can be tracked, and i ASSUMED this and p2p software would be the only way to get “Caught” downloading copyrighted files, so i dont use those, just websites.
Your thoughts? or know the exact answer?
Thanks in advance.
Johnny

File hosts are perfectly safe, the connection is directly between you & them and no anti-piracy group
can get in the middle. Usenet is also safe as well as private torrent trackers (demonoid is
public btw) but it’s hard to get an invite or signup to those as registrations
are closed most of the time, plus you gotta maintain ratio which is a difficult task, unless you buy a seedbox that is.

Getting good speeds with torrents is certainly possible, But you gotta know the basics first.
Every torrent has a certain number of seeders/leechers (seeders means ppl who are sharing the file
after they’ve finished downloading it while leechers means ppl who are currently downloading it)
clearly if there are a lot more leechers than seeders the speed will not be that great, Or if there
are hardly any seeders at all, The speed will usually be poor (but there are exceptions sometimes, especially if one
of the seeders uses a seedbox) also, if you have a router, you must forward the port used by your client
for optimal performance, Firewall settings should be set accordingly as well. Generally speaking, Torrents
are better for newer stuff than older.

That’s probably not their fault, Reading between the lines, It’s fairly obvious that your downloading
from these hosts as a free user. Most file hosts restrict free user’s speed, Sometimes to the extremes, It’s
just their way to motivate you to buy a premium account! but you don’t have to settle with one host
in particular, You could get an account with rpnet or realdebrid (multi-premium providers) that way
you’ll have premium download access to multiple file hosts (and it’s cost you a lot less than having an account
with each in separate!)

your ISP will see that your downloading from legit web hosting but they cant see what, and honestly, they dont care what you do until it is brought to their attention why get rid of their customers unless they really have to? they wont make any money if they kick you from their service the first time they see you downloading from a legit web hoster
Answer #5
Im not downloading from theses hosts as a free user, i have premium memberships.
right now, my ISP is whats causing my speed issues.
250 MS ping times to google.com lol its just a really really crappy service. check out “mediacomcable” sometime. you’ll see but thank you again
p.s i use aldebrid. been very happy with them. super cheap.
