Question about Laptop RAM!

I have Asus G75VX laptop which came with 8 Gigs DDR3 1600 MHz SDRAM (Pre-Installed 2 Dimms x 4 Gigs each) AND
I had RAM from my older laptop G73SW which had 8 Gigs DDR3 1333 MHz SDRAM
So I Added 4 Gigs of RAM from older laptop to my new Laptop (2 Dimms x 2 Gigs each)
Now I have 8 Gigs DDR3 1600 MHz + 4 Gigs DDR3 1333 MHz SDRAM
So my question is that is it good combination in terms of performance? I know 8 Gigs in general is enough for nearly everything. So should I takeout that 4 Gigs 1333 MHz? Is it impacting laptop performance? Though I haven’t had any problem running laptop from last 4 months……
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is hardly any real-world difference between 1600 and 1333mhz ram. Only in benchmarks can you see some tiny percentage of difference, but larger amount of ram is more important than a tiny bit faster ram. So keep it all if it works together. It will all be running at 1333mhz.
Your laptop has FOUR memory slots?
Wow.. Must have cost a bit!
All the one’s I’ve had have only had two slots.

But yes, all will run at 1333, and providing it IS running OK it’ll be right.
You might notice the speed difference if you do a lot of memory intensive work.
Catch22.. if you don’t do memory intensive stuff then you don’t need 12G ram, if you do then you might feel the drop in speed.
My lappy only has 8G, and I’ve not hit the top of it yet (got close a few times, and I don’t check when i play a game (the res monitor interferes with the games)).
It may slow it down quite a bit because of the slower speed and also it might run only in single chan mode rather than dual chan mode.
Get a copy of Aida64 and run that.
It has memory benchmark tests that you can run with the 8GB and the 12GB combinations to compare the difference in speed.
It shows the speed and also, on the right hand side of the window, if the memory is in dual.

if after installing the extra ram the lappy did not “feel” slower to you then don’t worry, be happy

another option is to create a “ram drive” with some of your memory google “ram drive” for info

It will cause system instability (if you run the RAM sticks at different speeds), as well as with the slower frequency, the laptops performance will decrease (because there is very few things you can do that will require more than 8gbs of RAM ATM).
