Portable hard drive is broken :(

hey guys i have a Iomega External Hard Drive 60GB 2.5 USB Silver Edition, its been workin fine for a year or so, now all of a sudden my laptop doesnt detect it and when i pulg it in it gives out a clicking noise and the disk inside sounds like an old ps2 that cant read games anymore lol any help wud be greatly appreciated

clicking/ticking noise = dying harddrive.
take it out of the case, put it in a desktop computer and try to backup as much as you can.

No, it’s dying, all you can do is connect it in a desktop pc and hope that it will show up so you can backup any data

oh well lol ill go throw it at a wall lol but it wud make a nice shiny paper weight

is it maybe still under warranty many drives are covered for a few years the makers site will probably have details some let you enter drive serial number to check warranty status

yeh i done that hamish it aint under warranty any more, sorta too late now lol it got put out the top window lol

dont trash it yet.. there is some method to make it work for sometime and then take back up of important files.. its been done by edwoobweb.. may be u should PM him.. its something about freezing the drive and then heating it back..

i dont need to back up anything off it, i think theres like one movie on it thats all lol

I think you maybe able to put another disk in it instead of trashing it
