No internet connection on PC – Ethernet port not blinking [SOLVED]

February 2nd, 2020

Hello,
I have recently upgraded my PC (as my GFX card was dead), and i’ve noticed that i’m not getting any internet connection on my PC – Ethernet port not blinking. Parts that been upgraded:
Graphics card to EVGA GT730
Memory to Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Motherboard that i’m currently using: Asus P7P55D-E ATX LGA1156 Motherboard
CPU: Intel core i5 lynnfield
After some search on net, ive done the following:
1. reinstalled realtek nic drivers – not working
2. Troubleshoot with windows – not working
3. Disable / renable the LAN port on BIOS – not working
4. ping my router port – no incoming signal
5. change ethernet cable – not working -> working with my laptop using same ethernet cable
6. removed the cmos battery and put back again – not working
But Windows 7 is detecting my network adapters, is that normal?
I mean if my network adapter is dead, windows will continue to detect it? Can you please suggest me what any alternatives test or solution before i need to invest on an NIC card (no money). Thank you.

I suggest you reinstall the Chipsets driver and see if that fixes it..

Any of those sort of things in device manager?
Answer #3
try turning the pc off, unplug power supply and press the power on button for few times, then plug it back in and see if it worked.

Are you 100% positive that it was your graphics card wasn’t working and it isn’t your MB slowly dying? This all sounds rather familiar.
Mine was also 1156 and I was so disappointed because even finding a replacement 2nd hand board was so expensive. All that other wasted hardware that is now useless (except to sell)
Basically it started thinking it was my graphics card. then ram, then cpu and eventually I lost internet and faced the fact the board was dying. Obviously dbl chk the modem too.

@ : Nothing on Realtek device manager
@ : tried that also, didnt work
@ : Yes 100% sure my GFX card was dead , ive changed it, working fine, but the LAN port still not working.
@ : Ive installed the chipset, problem still persist.
Question: if the port is dead, windows will still recognized it?
ipconfig/all

If the network adapter is fine and only the port broke then it’s perfectly normal to have it detected. The card is connected to the motherboard and the pc detects that connection. Ethernet or no ethernet, the adapter is still connected to the PC so it’s perfectly normal. You had a case of bad luck in which the plug stopped working but the rest didn’t.

You can buy a network card very cheap and test it..That way you can determine if your built in Lan is not dead..

Ping 127.0.0.1 in the command prompt. If you get any answer it, then your Ethernet port is good and if not then it is sure that your Ethernet port is dead.
You might be having the problem with the Ethernet cable. I think that the cable might be dead or the wire must damaged do to some reasons. So you can try using a new Ethernet cable for your computer. For what it’s worth, after a bit of research, I’ve found that this issue pops up using build r8168 driver for this NIC (source available from Realtek’s site) and both drivers are loaded at the same time. Resetting the BIOS resolves the issue though.

You have tried reseating the LAN card and cleaning the connectors gently with isopropanol and a non lint cloth or use the eraser on a pencil gently to clean the connectors ?
You can also buy a USB to LAN card, a 10/100/1000 one is about £2, always habdy to have. Borrow a LAN card from a friend and try that.
Uninstall any old drivers before installing a new/different card, that can cause software conflicts.

Ive heard a way to get it working is called the reach around.. Go in from the back and get the system to rub the front which gives the best connection?? And it should all work?? maybe helpful??
Answer #12
Just add a new ethernet network card like said.you are going to a lot of trouble to solve this problem when a replacement costs next to nothing and is fitted in a heartbeat. My onboard card failed the day before yesterday and i was back online in 40 mins and that included the car journey to collect it from the shop.Components fail and thats sods law just change it out, good luck
