Split ethernet port

At my school dorm room there is only 1 ethernet port however as I have a desktop and laptop now and there is not wifi in the dorms rooms how can I split up the ethernet into two ports?
I have tried wifi router and a 4 port switch and had no luck
we have to register our mac address without username to get webaccess, help is appreciated

use a router and take your network cards mac address. copy it into clone mac address in your routers config. (if you have a good router that option should be there).
There you go.. 4 ports instead of 1 🙂
