New ipad mini owner, looking for basic help
February 3rd, 2020
My friend bought new iPhone, although i don’t know why he’s always had a blackberry and i have samsung.
It came with a free iPad mini , which he gave to me to figure out how to use, the problem is i have never touched an apple product in my life and no idea what i got myself into my taking on the task.
I only have used a tower PC with windows, no touch screen stuff. My opinion has been based on only i heard which is that hacked apple products are rare and the apple fans pay through the nose for apps and other stuff with lengthy agreements.
What he will want is basically use it to send resumes, hear music, play games and watch movies.
I have d/l ed iPad.mini.For.Dummies.2nd.Edition. and some magazine for iphone/ipad users. Questions i have are…
1) security, i use peerblock, an anti virus, anti malware, anti ad and anti tracking and a firewall. Is there something foolproof i should install that works with apple tech? To basically do what i do here using my windows tower. 2) What can this ipad do that’s special or different than a tower PC? Can it hook up to a printer?
3) I Have been reading several helpdesk columns about the ipad mini and seems like in order to get free stuff i have or find to work on it, it has to be jailbroken. If i do this, will it delete his warranty or should he just pay for the things he wants or needs?
thanks for any advice

1. I never installed any AV on phone or tablet. Dont know the answer. It slow mine down so meh.
2. Now if you have different tablet aside from the ipad. You can do a lots of thing. But the ipad….. You can hardly do much. It can do the basic I can tell you that. Since you have Samsung before… you know how its just a drag and forget. Or drag it to your desktop and save it for later use. You cant do that with Apple product. Sometimes it a headache.
3. I have not touched/stalled on Apple crack app for a while now. But when I used to install crack app. It has to be jailbroken and install package from Cydia. It will void your warranty same as rooting. Its both way really. You “can” restore it or update it to the latest version (if there are one) then your warranty are not void.
But really. A unjailbreak Apple Iphone/Ipad is plain. You wont be able to do a much on a stock Apple product. Mine always root (android) and jailbreak (Apple) when they are available.

Not really, iOS is actually pretty damned secure. The exception is if you jailbreak, which removes many of the security features in iOS, potentially opening yourself up to attack. It’s a long time since I’ve jailbroken, so I don’t know exactly what’s available, but there are several AVs and firewalls available on Cydia (second app store for jailbroken users), I don’t know if there’s an equivalent to Peerblock, but I wouldn’t suggest torrenting on an iPad anyway; you’ve just barely got enough memory, and you’ll end up having to copy the stuff back to your PC anyway.
2) What can this ipad do that's special or different than a tower PC? Can it hook up to a printer?
They’re very different, but it’s difficult to really list the differences, you’re basically sacrificing some feature for portability and battery life. If your printer is modern enough to support wifi, you can print.

Yeah, to install cracked apps you need to jailbreak, which will void your warranty in theory (however if you wipe the iPad and restore it, no one at Apple can show that you jailbroke it). Honestly, iOS apps are cheap enough that I haven’t bothered jailbreaking in over a year
